Hey, remember all the people saying they wouldn't vote for either party because they were both "equally as bad?" Yeah, good times, right? Glad we're past that now.

Now in all seriousness, what in the actual fuck are we doing here. Shit like this makes me more sick to my stomach than a lot of the other things this administration does, because "kill anyone I disagree with" is so deeply integrated with historical fascist-related events that it feels even more like the calling card of fascism than any other policy or rhetoric that led to it that this administration has also implemented.

Equally bad is a pretty insane take, but so is putting the blame for the election on anyone but the Democratic establishment. Off the top of my head I can name at least half a dozen catastrophic unforced errors, and that's without even touching their complicity in Gaza. They knew what the risks were, but they really didn't seem to give a shit.

And unfortunately I had the displeasure of trying to refute people making that exact argument. Not just "they're both doing bad things," but legitimately "if you vote either way, it will have an identical overall outcome for people's wellbeing" (paraphrased ofc)

but so is putting the blame for the election on anyone but the Democratic establishment

Yeah, I get that too. I never really thought the dems were good, but I just think it's hard to argue that their practices of "keep everything generally the same economically while continuing to start forever wars" are identical to "deport every single immigrant, kill anyone I disagree with, crush the healthcare system, jack up prices for goods and services... and also keep starting forever wars with a nice side of random bombings of ships we think have bad people on them"

They knew what the risks were, but they really didn’t seem to give a shit.

That's the thing: I don't think they did. I legitimately think the Democrats just assumed that this was the usual case of "Republican says some crazy shit, we shift a little towards that in our messaging and policy, everything stays generally the same with a bit of a rightward slant" that they've been doing for decades now.

They already knew he said crazy shit before, why would they think this time would be any different? After all, they're heavily invested in just following the rightward tide of the overton window, so when he says crazy shit, they just try the same playbook they did last time by saying "he's crazy, look at him!" without realizing that this wasn't the same as last time, and that this sort of messaging no longer works.

Thank the Democrats for that one. They sure don't make it easy.

their practices of "keep everything generally the same economically while continuing to start forever wars"

The Democrats are so much worse than that. Understating that reality is a terribly unconvincing argument.

I don't think they did.

They did. At least their rhetoric said they did. They knew of project 2025 and were telling people to take that much seriously. They just didn't follow their own advice. Then Harris disappeared the second she lost, only to pop back up for a book tour 8 months later. What a leader.

Obviously we need more good people like chuck schumer to stand in their way. Only solution is vote harder.

Now you get it! Someone take away your spine so you can get into office too! /s

Fucking commies stabbed us in the back, this is all their fault. We would have won the election if not for them.
