IDK why people are shocked MTG has turned into absolute capeshit when they've been convinced those are their most successful moments e.g. Weatherlight & nu-planeswalker stuff. They pick and choose which aspects of a block made it successful as an excuse to make the game worse.
Hopefully disgruntled fans pile on projects like XMage and it becomes more commonplace to do digital drafts, the game clients get better, and people just start inventing their own sets and formats that are actually good. The core of the game is the ruleset, and being in the clutches of WotC has limited the potential of the system
