What do you use to scan executables for viruses/malware?

I'm using Linux and never really bothered scanning for viruses. Is ClamAV a good start?

ClamAV is good.

You can also run a VM.

Regardless of the Anti Virus, you can and should use sandboxing like bubblewrap, firejail, containers, etc
