โ€œThey dragged little Greta [Thunberg] by her hair before our eyes, beat her, and forced her to kiss the Israeli flag. They did everything imaginable to her, as a warning to others,โ€

This. Just dropping a quote without a source?

Edit: it is from just that article

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

Of course this isn't acceptable. But it's hardly a balanced report. For instance, she's 22 - hardly a little girl.

[-] undergroundoverground@lemmy.world 60 points 5 days ago

The description is of her size, not her age.

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Oh, so there was another Greta on the boat who was bigger, and they just used big/little to distinguish?
Or were they trying to imply Greta is physically weak, or fits in small places? Wft does is make a difference if she's 'little'? Torturing anyone is bad. I'd say it's especially bad to torture a child; which is what the quote was trying to imply.

Surely you are not this dense

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Please don't call me Shirley.

[-] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 44 points 5 days ago

This quote says little Greta, not little girl.

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 19 points 5 days ago

22 is young, my dude. Isn't that the tragedy we're meant to learn from 2 world wars, that war is a meat grinder for the young?

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Yes, wars are horrible.

[-] 4Robato@lemmy.world 25 points 5 days ago

Why do you comment something without reading the article? This is a quote from someone explaining what they saw, not the reporter describing her like that.

[-] IsoKiero@sopuli.xyz 5 points 5 days ago

I thought that it was a bit odd wording too based on the quote alone, implying that Greta was some fragile small thing everyone should protect instead of brave young woman that she is. But then I read the article and in context it makes sense, that's something I might say too in the same situation.

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Of course. And that's the main source the reporter is using, so it's relevant.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago

What other source did you want? IDF soldiers explaining how they did nothing to her at all and she deserved every bit of it.

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Well that would likely be even more biased. Yes, it would be good to get a statement from Israel. But just because we can't get unbiased info doesn't mean we should believe everything.

[-] Strawberry 1 points 4 days ago

she is physically a small person

[-] ohshit604@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Your comment got -70 downvotes but this dude essentially said the same thing with majority agreeing him with +200 upvotes. Lemmy, pick a side already, sheesh.

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Funny. I can handle downvotes! Do they even get tallied somewhere on Lenny?
