Cyberpunk
What is Cyberpunk?
Cyberpunk is a science-fiction sub-genre dealing with the integration of society and technology in dystopian settings. Often referred to as “low-life and high tech,” Cyberpunk stories deal with outsiders (punks) who fight against the oppressors in society (usually mega corporations that control everything) via technological means (cyber). If the punks aren’t actively fighting against a megacorp, they’re still dealing with living in a world completely dependent on high technology.
Cyberpunk characteristics include:
- Dystopian city setting where mega-corporations rule
- Full integration of technology into society, featuring cybernetic implants
- Outsider protagonists (punks) who often are very familiar with the technology around them
- Hard boiled detective and film noir vibes and influence
- Themes dabbling in trans-humanism, existentialism, and what it means to be human.

I wonder how they got it off him. Usually they cut the ring and that would be really bad with a lithium battery.
After a bit of light searching I found this article. They lubed up his fingers and iced them to remove it since they didn't want the ring to explode.
a fitness ring has to be one of the dumbest things I can think of. Fingers swell a lot for various reasons, and you already want a ring somewhat snug so it doesn't fall off, so when it swells you get it even more snug, so you add a battery so it possible has its own issues. But now you can't cut it off in an emergency, and you can't repair it even if you do cut it off, you just sacrifice a couple hundred bucks for something that is less effective, less efficient, more dangerous than a watch that gives you more features.
The icing was to make his fingers shrink a bit. Between that and the lubrication it was enough to get off. If that hadn't worked... I don't know. Not a great place to put a potential fire hazard. A phone in the pocket is bad enough.
Really unlikely it would explode if cut but it would vent like hell which isn't much better.
