Nothing out of the ordinary. Russia has a conscription-based military service, and eligible men are drafted twice a year. The same goes for countries like Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Taiwan, South Korea, and Israel, just to name a few.
