If not than it should be as simple as deleting the old partition
So it can be overwritten even if its encrypted?
Yep, in my experience hard drives will let you erase an encrypted partition exactly the same as an unencrypted one
The part that gets tricky is trying resize an encrypted partition because the contents need to be read
