I witnessed my first academic purge at the Texas university I was attending at this time.

Not many people were officially disciplined for speaking out about the weirdness of the original incident or about criticism of the responses.

But the repression of a few outspoken voices sent a shiver of fear among both the faculty, staff and students so there was no organized opposition or debate on campus about any of that. And to my surprise that taboo never went away
