This is just my perspective, and I never wish harm or suffering on another living being, but if what/who you are and advocate for causes these things and you're too stupid or bribed to see it and continue being you... Then, for the greater good, good riddance

Don't get me wrong, he got what he advocated for, I'm certainly not crying or really feeling anything about his death but huh, I guess dude FAFO'ed. I just don't find the "good guy with a gun" comment appropriate here that's all even if a small sliver of me goes "yeah, kinda, yeah" because more than likely that guy is very much not a good guy, probably very mentally ill.

Just my thoughts.

From the bits I saw of the alleged shooter getting arrested, to me it looks like the guy was planning on getting caught. Balding old white men who can shoot like that don't strike me as the type who run away.

EDIT: Waiting for confirmation on whether the actual suspect is caught or not.

[-] ultranaut@lemmy.world 24 points 11 months ago

Last I saw the shooter is still free, the person originally arrested is not involved and has been released.

Hmm. I guess we'll wait and see.

per AP:

Person taken into custody after Charlie Kirk was shot in Utah is not believed to be shooting suspect, AP source says

[-] MouldyCat@feddit.uk 8 points 11 months ago

A statement released by the university said a “single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody.” A university spokeswoman later told the New York Times that police had determined the person detained earlier was not the shooter, and that no suspect was currently in custody.

Looks like the guy initially arrested turned out to not be involved (maybe just another guy with a high powered rifle? Don't know, must make things hard in the US). Or have they since arrested someone else?

Probably one of those "open carry" dipshits, hanging around to show off his gun, and when someone gets shot, he's the first guy they focus on, giving the real shooter a head start on his escape. Nice job being a witless accomplice.

[-] MightEnlightenYou@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

I completely understand, and I actually wish that I could share your perspective. Unfortunately for my "empathy for all" perspective, I couldn't help but smile when I read that he got shot. Because my mind directly went to the "oh, this is gonna alleviate so much suffering" POV

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 11 months ago

My reaction:

"Wait, who got shot? Really? Wow. So, what's for dinner?"

[-] classic@fedia.io 7 points 11 months ago

I'm adding FAFOed to my lexicon

[-] MightEnlightenYou@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I haven't read about, and am not interested in the shooter.

My opinion is only that the world is better off without Charlie Kirk, nothing else at this point.

[-] zd9@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

I don't know. This is only going to cause MAGA to ramp up their fascism, and give them a better excuse to enact further violence on us, the citizens.

[-] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 46 points 11 months ago

The ramp up was always going to happen anyway. Everyone knows that appeasement doesn't work on Nazis.

[-] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

I can even see an argument in which he was killed by his own as a sacrificial lamb as there is no bottom in the depths of their depravity.

[-] Naia 26 points 11 months ago

They didn't need this. They were going to do it regardless. They might use this as an excuse, sure, but it wont' be the reason.

Fascist do not "need" a reason to remove rights from people.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 7 points 11 months ago

They need exactly zero excuse other than brown people existing to ramp up their fascism and enact violence on Americans.
