Jordanlund removed a post in news@lemmy.world because I, not even the post author, disagreed with his view of how moderation should work.

For extra pettiness, he removed my comments before removing the whole post.

Well that's fun that it's now considered attacking when questioning mod decisions on world. Then again they've always been incredibly aggressive that way in their news comm when people don't go along with their odd decisions

Yeah, I'm amused jordanlund posted the modlog, as that does not make him look better. I raised the issue with another mod and they called my criticism "belligerent", which is a wild label to apply to those two comments. There was no response to moderating for "spite". Apparently he just couldn't help himself after such withering belligerence.

Yeah they get crazy anytime they're questioned. But world seems to love having them as a mod so 🤷good for them?

My experience is similar to LibertyLizard. A lot of the time they're just doing regular mod stuff, but every once in a while they go Cartman and just escalate every minor little critique. This is definitely not the first time I've noticed them going off the rails for seemingly minor criticism.

The other mods should be reeling him in when this happens and ideally he should be the one calling them in. I've modded before, and we'd go to our fellow mods if we were getting heated. Easier to get the sanity check and if you're in the right to have a third party step in to do the mod actions. I'm not sure how active they really are though. Since there's no "message the mods" system I had to go down the mod list to find someone to lodge the complaint with. Only a few of them post to Lemmy regularly.

Last time I looked at it the Lemmy world mods discord server was just a giant dick sucking contest where they just egg each other on with shit like this, I wouldn't expect any of them to call each other out.

When they have an issue with a specific user they will rally around the group to build dislike for that particular user posting screen shots and berating them between themselves.

I haven't been on there for 6 months + as I deleted my discord account but I doubt much has changed in that time.

I was gobsmacked that "I'll remove it to spite you" didn't even warrant some bullshit like "we agree that that was an inappropriate thing for a mod to say", even if they backed him on the strict no image posts stance. That's really inexcusable, and the very core of the problem.

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 3 weeks ago

The one time I took something to the world admins, they said it was fine because nothing was happened after the time period listed.

Then if you don't like it just message us privately and we'll totally look again

.world is just Reddit 2.0 at this point...

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 3 weeks ago

Wasn't that the entire reason they created it?

[-] alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago

If yes, then they missed the entire point LOL.

Lemmy is intended to be a link aggregator without all the Reddit BS and toxicity.

It is similar to Reddit and an alternative to it, but recreating Reddit should not be the goal at all

Stated rules of the group were met with hostility and that hostility was returned in kind.

Compare with the conversation I had with OP who very kindly fixed his post which is perfectly allowed as it now abides by the rules of the community.

"Now I'm removing it just to spite you." is such a clear self-report of mens rea that it borders on satire. The question of whether or not there was a rule infraction to begin with is utterly moot after a statement like that.

Why even try to rationalize it now? Go ahead and label your actions as PTB in this thread. At this point, it's probably the most honest move you can make.

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 25 points 3 weeks ago

Yes how dare they question your authority

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

They question ANYONES authority. PTB gonna PTB.

OP had a chance to fix their post, they were told how to fix it, they did.

Another user, unrelated to the discussion, wanted to get all pissy about it. Tough titty.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
