from my (admittedly limited) knowledge of european politics, and my experience with canadian and quebec politics, i can tell you with confidence that this is very much not a problem exclusive to the USA; it’s endemic to the whole global north
Also a problem in australia. It's a big myth that without mining companies australia would basically be a developing country but in reality they pay no taxes and they don't contribute to the economy at all.
To be fair, Australia is considered a part of the "global north."
Oh yeah no question, I can confirm that this is very much a sentiment in Canada right now as well.
