I think it would be nice to have greater block options, but have never had a personal need for them. What kind of internet beefs are you guys getting into?

The women's stuff drama was enough for me to block a bunch of butthurt men preemptively

Yeah, there was a lot of negative comments flying around and post from somebody in the community to ask lemmy that was something like 'why do some men find it so hard to understand they aren't wanted in a women's only space' and that obviously dug up a bunch of misogyny and 'not all men' comments.

I missed this. Probably why they moved instance. Was proud of hosting them for the short while. Was a bit bummed out when they moved on, but I understand.

Yes, it's now on !womensstuff@piefed.blahaj.zone

PieFed offers more control for this kind of situation, I think otherwise they would have stayed on your instance

there's a type of internet person who will quote reply every sentence in a neutral statement you make and try to keep you replying for as long as they can no matter what. they have a veneer of "facts and logic" but that's just the cope to try and keep you in the conversation longer.

If you haven't encountered one, you're very lucky. or you are good at leaving comments that just don't attract them.

oh yeah I forgot that was the word for that. they use other techniques too but that's the one I described. it's more about their goal and how they like to spend time on the internet though

I've never seen that - can you send me an example?

(/s btw -> this is an example of a sea lioning tactic in action!!)

I browse by new and block communities I really dislike, so I see new unknown stuff, which is usually great. Also I have some filter words in my client for reoccurring things that started to annoy me.

It's better than subscriptions IMO.

I used to do that, though now on PieFed I use a combination of Notifications sent for very low-volume communities, categories of communities, and feeds, and these days almost never browse by New anymore. I very much prefer it this way bc of how things are organized - e.g. I can unsubscribe from most politics communities, and then whenever I want it, it is all still immediately accessible in that category. So I can have my cake and still eat it too! 🤤🎂
