TLD - .ch vs .org (lemmy.myserv.one)

I’m making a new website and want to use a .ch or .org TLD.

I’m located in the U.S., and obviously concerned about our dictatorship.

Questions:

  1. Is .org protected enough?

  2. If I get a .ch, will it still show up in google searches for my community?

Thank you. This is my first time doing this. I don’t have my own server to host from (not sure that’s relevant?).

Domain names have little to do with privacy, and also wise to mentally separate the domain name from your website. If you’re looking host a website and not deal with the US, it’s probably more important to focus on who your domain registrar is and who your web host is (and what countries both are based in). The TLD you pick is almost irrelevant.
