Having kids focus on the lesson and real life socializing is not a bad thing.

Confiscating their phone for a week is not acceptable, unless they've had it confiscated till the end of the day a few times already.

IMO it's not acceptable regardless. The school's jurisdiction as it were ends at the door. Anything beyond that is theft.
