Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!
What is a Tankie?
Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.
(caution of biased source)
Basic Rules:
Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.
Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.
Apologia — (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.
Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.
Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in unrelated arguments.
Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting or manipulating the post in any way, this includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be permanently banned.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
One of the lines I see repeated with every business cycle is "China is lying about their economic data". Like, quarter after quarter, year after year, decade after decade.
At some point, you have to engage in a bit of meta-criticism. Why do you believe an enemy nation-state is secretly failing when only the lay residents of the rival power seem to be aware of it? What is your crystal ball and how is it showing information that's more reliable than the Goldman Sachs trading desk or the IMF analytics department?
So much of the time it seems like Yeomni Park is the source for every American's understanding of the outside world. And anyone who asserts a contrary view must be a shill, a bot, or a political extremist.
Contrary view isn't purely praise and refused to accept the weakness of the country, which is the perspective you and the tankie definitely possessed. We're just stating the obvious and calling a shill shill.
I occasionally shit on china while also praise some of their aspect, i do it the same way for all the country.
I don't think clickbait youtube videos are a fair measure of American media reporting on China. Youtube is largely random users shouting into the void. They're going to frequently exaggerate or otherwise spread misinformation on any subject for attention or even simple ignorance. There's little to suggest it's controlled propaganda considering you'll likely find much more conspiracy critical of the American government than China's.
Since you seem to have a view different than most people here, do you trust China's reporting on itself more than that of reputable western media? If so, why?
I trust their reporting when it aligns with regional business news coverage and correlating economic data.
I don't casually dismiss it as propaganda any more than I would dismiss the BLS senior leadership in the states.
YouTube has a pattern of recommending right-leaning and Christian videos, even to users who haven’t previously interacted with that kind of content, according to a recent study of the platform’s suggestions to users.
