I'll have to admit that I never got very far in it, but what I did read, I really liked. One day I'll finish it... one day...
Same.
I read that book right after taking like English 400: Theory and Criticism, so I was like "yeah it has footnotes but doesn't every book have footnotes?" Then I recommended it to a friend who hadn't read a book more complex than harry potter in 20 years, and her brain like caught fire.
There's also "Book" by Robert Grudin. At one point

there's an uprising and the footnotes rebel against the plot.
