Literally anything that actually matters.
A pedophile ring for the 1% in which everyone knows they're doing it and no one does anything to stop it doesn't matter?
I'd argue a pedophile ring isn't as important as stopping an environmental collapse or making sure the entire population has access to Healthcare. The irony being the 1% a responsible for all of them
You know we can do more than one thing, right? Like, it’s not one guy who has to go around arresting the pedophiles, fixing climate change, and establishing wealth equality. In fact, no one person is expert enough in all three to really be the person for the job!
We can do this all at the same time. Take a breath and stop getting in the way of something that is finally starting to see results.
Establishing clear priorities doesn't mean that you can only do one thing, it means that if circumstances require you to choose one thing over the other, you have a well reasoned framework to make that decision even if you really want both things.
Also no one was saying, "we need to stop being mad about Epstein so we can focus on healthcare" they were saying "it's a shame that people didn't get as mad about healthcare as they did about Epstein when it's clearly the higher priority problem". It's actually them advocating that we should do more than one thing, and that the fact that we're only doing one thing is made even worse because it's the thing that's lower priority.
A lot of people are trying to deflect from the issue, even comments here, where have you been? They’re so desperate to get the world away from the topic that they’ll say just about anything. It’s very similar to the “why do we help refugees and not our own elderly people” argument that exists only to hurt foreigners and comes from the very people who get in the way of social safety net improvements all over the world.
Right now this issue has momentum, and since they haven’t been afraid of climate change all this time then it looks like the pedo ring is their weakspot. Why attack where their armour is the strongest when they have a gaping hole in it staring us in the face?
And as far as the topmost comment in the thread is concerned, a lot of people are that energized when it comes to the other issues. Sure it’s not MAGA folk, but expecting them to care about others is a losing game.
The comment that sparked this line of discussion was:
"I am all for it... but I wish people would get this passionate about healthcare, the environment, education, housing, and all the other things that are suffering in our society."
Not deflection, not discouraging the pursuit of this issue, just wishing for a better world where we could get this kind of traction on issues that actually materially affect most people.
"... expecting them to care about others is a losing game."
Ignoring the fact that many of them are personally impacted by the issues mentioned, I agree, but someone taking a moment to mourn a better world that could have been is pretty normal and human, and just doesn't seem to warrant the backlash in this thread.
I'm glad that the MAGAs finally found something that made them start to question if they're being conned, and I relish seeing so many people pouring gas on that fire. But I also agree that it would have been nice if it could have been something more impactful that sparked that reaction.
You’re right, that is the comment that is at the top of this thread. You responded to my response to a different comment made by a different person, though.
The person I responded to, again not the one at the tippy-top of the thread, is saying that the pedo ring shouldn’t be treated with much of a high priority despite absolutely being some top-tier evil shit. If the country pulls off actually bringing people down because of it, those are largely the same people causing a lot of the environmental and healthcare issues. If they really let this momentum go they maybe even be able to begin the long trek towards making sure that people know exactly who conservatives work for and who they’re happy to knowingly support. This is rightfully eroding people’s trust in a political party bent on hurting as many people as possible.
It’s all tied together. I’d say it’s obvious, but you couldn’t even figure out who I was directly responding to so maybe connecting dots isn’t some people’s strong suit.
You say that but how well does governments handle multiple problems at once? In a perfect world we could but this world is far from perfect
Really well? Most governments might show off one at a time but have you ever heard of a thing called a “department” and that there are several of them of them doing different things?
It doesn't matter what your cause of choice is, someone is always going to say something else is more important. However, saying human trafficking doesn't matter at all? That's a pretty dickish statement.
I agree, it would be nice if Republicans cared about more of these things, but human trafficking is also a major issue.
No humans to traffic if the ecosystem collapses. There is a scale of what problems are most important. I'd agrue preventing the destruction of our species is more important than any crime committed by a group of individuals. That being said you don't just ignore all the other problems. You just prioritize one over the other
Yeah funny how those with an excess of wealth and a lack of morals seem to be behind so many terrible things in the world...
It doesn't if the Kingpin of that ring is a king above the law. Literally a waste of time.
Kings are for courts and guillotines.
So addressing this problem can also help address another problem?
