I really wish they didn't give this thing a LotR name (Palantir), Tolkien would've hated it.

I was recently reading that hard core right and Sociopathic Oligarchs all have a real weird thing for LotR. They give Tolkien names to lots of stuff. The article was very vague about why there is a connection ( I got the feeling that they really didn't know why it resonates with them), but it is there.

It makes no sense because Tolkien wouldn't have agreed with most of them and would've despised how they use his legacy. I don't think these people understood the message the books were trying to send.
