Here's a faster easier option!

  1. Press and hold the icon until it shakes
  2. Click uninstall

While I like this option more, at this point I wouldn't trust it to not spy on me still. I guess that also goes for the settings route. Shit.

How is it going to spy on you if you don't have it on your device and do not use it?

I think mostly by websites colluding to track your browser's fingerprint so facebook/meta can maintain your behavioral profile and sell it back to them.

Yeah, I know trackers are a thing but that's not the same as what this article is talking about.
