Arresting judges is a good thing as judges aren't above the law. In a healthy, democracy an AG wouldn't be threatening judges with arrest, any investigation would be carried out in a proper manner, and there would be public hearings about everything. Politicans would wisely say "No comment" on any investigation.
In this case, the whole thing was engireed to send a message to the judicary "Play ball with us, or you're going to get arrested".
ICE had the ability to calmly walk into the court room, ID whoever they needed, wait until everything was done, and arrested the person out in the hall. Instead ICE went in and made a scene about it, to either force Judge Hannah Dugan to capitulate to ICE or to set up a situation where ICE could trump up obstruction charges.
Now, you have a facist AG openly saying:
Almost guaranteed that the defintion of obstruction is going to be streched to cover judges denying deportations to the El Salvadoran concentration camps.
ICE made a scene in the courtroom?
My understanding is that the judge was arrested for allowing the defendant to leave the courtroom through a back door after ICE entered the courtroom and attempted to detain the person.
A person who was literally in court on their assigned court date in order to attempt to follow the correct immigration procedures.
Yes, but we need to be very careful here. Histronics are all fine and well. However, knowing all the facts as reported by the AP or Reuters is important.
The rank and file of the far right is going to be fed info about how he was arrested for domestic violence and had already been deported before.
ICE wasn't in the courtroom and didn't cause a scene. The judge was tipped off by a clerk that they were in the building.
We're all very aware of the propaganda the right is fed. We need to know the facts so it doesn't happen to us.
I'm not sure there is enough of a distinction between in the court building, and in the actual courtroom, to make any difference here... but sure. Point taken.
