Oh fuck this guy. After a stressful spring/summer of job hunting my wife landed her first paid teaching gig at an elementary charter school. In the spring of year one all the staff found out the school was closing and they weren’t getting paid for the rest of the year. We just had a year of unpaid student teaching and were once again surviving off only my low income. If remember correctly the teachers got paid late summer after legal action.
Who’s to blame? The asshat that started/funded the school: Marvin Sapp.
Did you guys stick around when you weren't being paid?
Yes, because there was a guarantee backing of some sort so we knew the money would eventually come through. Plus the school was so depressing she couldn’t leave her students. We even spent a few hundred dollars on supplies the school couldn’t provide to the classroom or students. There were students that were pretty much homeless, from abusive families, and/or absolutely broke. We didn’t have much, but she understood these kids really needed her.
