Summary

Chief Justice John Roberts is facing the consequences of the Supreme Court's broad immunity grant to Trump, as the Trump defies judicial orders and undermines the legal system.

In a controversial move, Trump deported Venezuelan immigrants to an El Salvador prison, disregarding a federal judge’s order and claiming immunity under foreign affairs powers.

Roberts issued a rare statement defending judicial independence.

Trump’s efforts to impeach the judge and challenge legal accountability reflect an erosion of democratic norms, prompting urgent concerns over constitutional crises and the rule of law.

Sure, they would have risen up, but at the time of Biden's inauguration, the most enthusiastically violent MAGAs, the worst of the worst, were being actively hunted by the FBI for their crimes on January 6. Most were hiding out, hoping that their family, their neighbors, their coworkers, etc. wouldn't turn them into the authorities. Some would be dumb enough to fight back, but most would do their beat to stay under the radar.

That leaves the rest, who were basically the B-Team. They didn't heed the call to Jan 6, so they had some sense of understanding of the consequences of such actions. They would have understood that HitlerPig and his henchmen were being detained for Jan 6 (we didn't know about the False Elctors or the Classified Documents theft yet), and while they wouldn't like it, they would know it's a legit charge. While they might scream a lot, most wouldn't take up arms. They are cowards, and their bark is always worse than their bite.

As for the rest, the more rabid MAGA animals, they could have been easily mopped up by the authorities. If the local cops won't help, the FBI or State can step in, deal with the criminals, and then sanction the local cops.

Sure, detaining the MAGA leadership for Sedition would have caused a huge outcry, and almost certainly some violence, but the violence that it will require to reverse them now that they are entrenched in our government will be far, far worse, and cause the deaths and suffering of many, many more.

I think it would have been better to throw the book at them back then, but I have a suspicion that the dems thought what happened was enough to turn the republic party from Trump, and if not them, the voters. Trump seems to have destroyed any and all pretence of standards in public life... He's so tacky. At this point any criminal could be US president, so long as they had a cult established before getting caught. Who could've guessed?

I saw a show about an interesting cult, the leader was a woman they called mother god. They killed the figurehead with all the wacky pseudoscience stuff she'd been on board with, but they carried on the cult afterwards. I'd guess the MAGA cult could continue being dangerous for a long time if it isn't correctly exposed and the members will hopefully drift back to their prior disorganised craziness.

Anyway trump seems to attract and gather the crazies. I can't see MAGAs following JD Vance or any of the others.

Its definitely a cult of personality that will end with his death. HitlerPig Jr has as much chance at taking over for the Old Fart as Frank Sinatra Jr had for taking over for his father.

I've heard people say that his death would only make him a martyr, but I'm fine with that. I'd rather have a dead martyr than a live traitor.

Not if they start a holy war with orange suicide bombers. Careful what you wish for!

We're going to be dealing with MAGA Traitors for a couple decades before we can fully purge them, so it might as well be with decent Americans in control.
