Summary

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau taunted Donald Trump after Canada defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime in the 4 Nations ice hockey competition in Boston.

Trudeau’s viral post, “You can’t take our country – and you can’t take our game,” came amid ongoing tensions between the leaders.

Trump, who previously mocked Trudeau as “Governor Trudeau” and floated annexing Canada, had earlier imposed tariffs on Canadian produce.

Amid boos of the American anthem and a surge in Canadian nationalism, the rivalry highlights both political and sporting divisions between the nations.

Rich of you to assume I'm a yank. I'm not. I'm Canadian. That's why I'm saying this is not against the spirit of the community. Canada and the us are not practically the same. Even to people outside North America. Would you say Mexico and the US are practically the same? Probably not.

Of course you're Canadian. That doesn't make you the tiniest bit biased. You know there exists thriving Canadian communities where you can read news involving your country too? Lemmy and other English speaking communities are so heavily dominated by e.g. US and Canada that the news involving these countries naturally appear in normal "general" news communities. The entire point of communities such as these is to give attention to things that yankees and wannabe yankees wouldn't ever dream to give a single shit about.

Would you say Mexico and the US are practically the same?

Does Mexico e.g. share the largest undefended border in the world with US?

just let it go. deterioration of North American (not US) international relations meets criteria for World News.

Of course I'm biased, who wouldn't be. Sure, there are other communities, but it was posted here and was not removed, so I don't get why you are making a big deal out of it. Don't you dare call us wannabe yankees, you sure are great at insulting Canadians. It does not, and that does not make Canadians and États-Uniens "practically the same." Would you say the English and Scots are practically the same? They share a country.
