Yeah, even when they had Emperors the idea was so ground in that they never claimed the title of Rex.

Partly because Imperator was seen as better anyways but it was absolutely a thing.

Fun East Rome Best and Worst Rome Fact: the ERE Emperor claimed the title Basilieus basically the moment Western Rome fell. Guess what it means?
