"The U.S. cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals," Petro wrote. Petro said even though there were 15,660 Americans without legal immigration status in Colombia, he would never carry out a raid to return handcuffed Americans to the United States. "We are the opposite of the Nazis," he wrote, in a jab at Trump. Mexico also refused a request last week to let a U.S. military aircraft land with migrants.

Mass deportations are the prelude to death camps.

[-] bradd@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Persons, groups of people, governments, territories, borders, citizens, immigrants. I'm pretty sure Nazi Germany had every one of these and now that Trump is president, I'm supposed to believe that we have all of these coincidentally? Next stop: Auschwitz.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Mass deportations of legal citizens, sure. Nothing wrong with deporting illegal migrants.

If it was Americans illegally living in ,Colombia you'd be cheering for them to send the American back to the US.

Also, the actual prelude to death camps is banning and removing guns from the population.

[-] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 46 points 4 days ago

Mass deportations of legal citizens, sure

you realize that's what he's already trying to do right?

That's what ending birthright citizenship is all about. Millions of people who are currently considered to be American citizens will have that stripped from them and then they are free to be deported

[-] kattfisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 4 days ago

Even before Trump, the US illegally deported lots of citizens by accident. Because practical legal protections against deportation were shit even back then.

So they don't even have to make it legal. Just impossible to practically fight illegal deportation.

A source https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Hundreds-of-citizens-end-up-in-deportation-11719324.php

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

That's not what ending birthright citizenship is about, it's about stopping anchor babies or birthright tourism. It's not about removing citizenship.

[-] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 2 points 3 days ago

He's doing it through the courts. declaring birthright citizenship unconstitutional doesn't just affect future claims, it also affect past claims

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

I guess we'll have to see

[-] wide_eyed_stupid@lemmy.world 33 points 4 days ago

Do you know that the Jewish population in Germany were citizens? And then Hitler took their citizenship away. Just like they used to have rights, until they didn't. Besides, just because something's legal, doesn't make it right. What's legal and what's not can change in the blink of an eye.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

Yes. That's not what's happening here. None of the people being deported were ever citizens.

[-] kandoh@reddthat.com 20 points 4 days ago
[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

Yes, yes, everyone's a Nazi who doesn't agree with your crazy rhetoric.

[-] kandoh@reddthat.com 3 points 3 days ago

The requirement for being a nazi is to believe nazi things, such as you do

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

It's so easy when you claim everything you dislike are "Nazi things"

If Trump came out and said breathing is good, you'd start screaming that breathing is what nazis do.

[-] kandoh@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

Rich coming from the people who call everything they dislike 'woke' and uncritically believe any stupid shit that comes out of the host of celebrity apprentices' mouth.

Enjoy the consequences of believing that everything will just work out in the end because god loves you

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I only call things that are tied to Marxist theory by way of identity politics "woke". Firing people who head giant departments and are doing a poor job of it isn't "woke", it's holding people accountable. If you don't do your job well, you should be fired. It's not that hard.

And I'm agnostic, but love that Insta-hate towards people who practice religion, that'll work out for you in the end. :)

I personally think making changes takes action, and that's what we're getting now. Action.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

...lol, what does that have to do with anything?

[-] kandoh@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

This is a the first plane crash in the U.S. in 16 years, and it happened in Trump’s second week as President, one week after he signed an executive order to eliminate aviation safety advisory committees and his current nominee for Transport Secretary is a guy from MTV's The Real World.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 22 hours ago

Lol, what? There was just a crash near Hawaii in 2021. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

And the recent crash had literally nothing to do with anything trump has done.

[-] kandoh@reddthat.com 1 points 19 hours ago

First major commercial aviation accident in the U.S. in 16 years, since the 2009 Colgan Air crash.

And the recent crash had literally nothing to do with anything trump has done.

Lol, so all those executive orders, firings, they have no effect at all on operations? You're delusional.

They're getting went emails like this, tryong to cajole them into resigning

This tweet sent out 14 hours BEFORE the crash

This was sent out a week ago: https://democrats-transportation.house.gov/news/press-releases/ranking-members-larsen-cohen-statements-on-trumps-dangerous-freeze-of-air-traffic-control-hiring

Only a dipshit ostrich with his head in the sand could say 'nothing trump did had anything to do with the bad thing that just happened that we were warned would happen'. It's pathetic worm shit.

[-] Initiateofthevoid@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

This person's outright sadistic blindness or trolling aside, anyone reading this comment with good faith and not immediately having an aneurysm should remember that the once and current president once said, and I quote:

I like taking guns away early. Take the guns first, go through due process second.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

Link to the quote? I'd like to look into that more.

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

just Google it, it was a big news story at the time

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

The link that was posted gave context. He wasn't trying to disarm the population, he was talking about confiscating a firearm from someone who's been flagged as about to harm themselves or others.

[-] oozynozh@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

does it really sound unlike any of the other authoritarian shit he says? here, i operated the search engine for you: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-take-firearms-first/

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

In your own damn link it says he was talking about those who are "red flagged", or is alerted to authorities as someone who might do something. You know, like when someone posts a manifesto online, he was saying they should be able to confiscate their gun and then have the court process.

He certainly wasn't saying he wants to disarm regular citizens.

[-] oozynozh@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago

well, you clearly demonstrated your reading comprehension on the Snopes article... perhaps you should exercise that same skill on my comment because nowhere did i mention any of that nonsense you replied with.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

Right, you didn't give any context to the quote and tried to insinuate he wanted to disarm the population.

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Jews weren't "legal citizens" in Nazi Germany. What is and isn't "legal" is entirely made up.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

They were prior to the law change. There is no law change here. The people being deported from the US were never us citizens.

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Even if you could prove that those people aren't here legally, Trump is changing the laws. He wants to end Birth Right citizenship.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

He wants to end anchor babies and birth tourism.

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago
[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

For anyone who does it. You think birth tourism is only done by brown people??

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I think Trump has a long history of racism and it will either bake it into law that Europeans get preferred treatment or it will be selectively enforced.

Btw, why are you using two questions marks? Do you think doing it makes you look more expressive?

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

Trump does not have a long history of racism. Nowhere in his past has he ever been called racist until he started running against the establishment.

Not sure why you think Europeans will be the only ones allowed to immigrate to America... There are people from all over the world who come here legally. That's not changing. It's just the mass that's the problem. Let them come from all over in healthy numbers.

I really don't care what you think about the way I type how I express myself when I do so. You can read why I write more than well enough. :)

"Donald started his career, back in 1973, being sued by the Justice Department for racial discrimination — because he would not rent apartments in one of his developments to African-Americans, and he made sure that the people who worked for him understood that was the policy," Clinton said on Monday night.

[-] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, you're going to have to do better than an NPR article quoting Hillay Clinton, who was the orchestrator of the Russia hoax. :)
