I’m confused. What are you saying? That word is thrown around against socialists. Tankies is often used to shut someone down and ignore what they're saying no matter how correct it is, or how little it has to do with Marxism.
Socialism is not a problem.
Hell. Communism is not a problem.
Implementation of communism and the defense of their (supposed!) Implementors is the problem.
Tankies defend russia, a nazi state. While shoving slurs at anyone in the western world. And calling them a nazi.
Tankies blindly salivate at what China is doing. Always explaining every horrific thing that had happened as a necessity. Then throwing slurs at anyone that disagrees. And banning when their logic is dismantled.
Tankies are defending NK. Disinfo nort korea normal people started on lemmy precisely when NK sent shells to russia.

Probably because Marxism is an inherently flawed political system, and every country that has ever attempted it has quickly become a hellhole.
What is "inherently flawed" about Marxism? Furthermore, all major AES states have been dramatic improvements on what came before, from the brutal Tsarist Russia, to the poor agrarian Nationalist China, to the fascist slave economy of Cuba, Socialism has made a massive improvement compared to previous systems for these countries.

The iconic Tiananmen square "Tank man" photo, where one guy stands in front of a column of tanks on their way to slaughter pro-democracy protesters, briefly stopping them. Tankies are lunatics that wish for authoritarian communism and so unironically support the tanks running him over.

Lmao "running him over?" The video shows him walking away completely unscathed, after they let him into the tank to talk. The tanks were also leaving the square, not entering it. That's also not where the term comes from.

"Tankie" is a pejorative used against Marxists, though I've seen it even used against Anarchists these days.
