Despite a limited budget, I found the movie to be very inspired and well done. I thought the acting was solid and was genuinely creeped out for most of the movie. It isn’t the best adaptation of the character in my opinion—I think the animated movies Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron hold that title—but I think it’s a solid dark horror movie take on the character and enjoyed it much more than the 2019 adaption.

I enjoyed it. The low budget, horror but not scary, frightening or gory is appreciated. Atmosphere, setting and period was a nice change of pace from previous films. Casting did fine, Jack Kesy works as a young Hellboy. I would like to see more of the smaller/low stakes stories.

Solid take! I also found the horror line well done and liked Kesy in the role.

I would still like to see an animated anthology approach for Hellboy moving forward though. It would give them the opportunity to adapt a lot of the original stories and maybe steer closer to the comic aesthetic.

With that said, I think the filmmakers of the recent film did about as good as they could with the limited budget.
