Why does American media have such a hard time talking about Israel being an apartheid state, when it's an established fact?

Did you not read this part of the article you linked?:

smaller groups attempted to breach the fence, rolling tires, and throwing stones and molotov cocktails. Israeli officials said the demonstrations were used by Hamas as cover for launching attacks against Israel.

At least 189 Palestinians were killed between 30 March and 31 December 2018. An independent United Nations commission said that at least 29 out of the 189 killed were militants. Other sources claim a higher figure, of at least 40.

Maybe they should try suing for peace and enforcing it internally instead of protesting and trying to breach the border fence? Or perhaps depose violent groups like Hamas and renounce intifada?

If you think this has been a peaceful resistance, you haven't been paying attention.

Currently they're being killed and shot for sitting in their refugee tent.

Previously, when they attempted peaceful protests they were shot. There are countless videos of this.

Paraplegic children are shot square through their foreheads, for simply laying in a bed.
