Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz embodies everything liberal women see in their own fathers – except for their political views. For some, it makes them hopeful but also very sad.

He’s got jokes, enthusiasm and a smiley face that’s not even remotely trying to hide how he’s feeling. He’s Tim Walz- and he’s bringing major Midwestern dad energy to the Democratic ticket.

At least that’s how many white women feel when they see Walz in videos, riding the Slingshot at the state fair with his daughter, signing legislation to give kids in Minnesota free lunches or tweeting about his pet cat.

It’s in stark contrast to what some see in their own fathers - who often have more conservative political views.

“He is silly. My dad used to be very, very silly and goofy,” Pamela Wurst Vetrini, a woman who recently compared Walz to her father, said in a viral TikTok video.

...

A lot of us had moderate to conservative, educated, sensible fathers that we lost to Rush Limbaugh. That we lost to Fox News. That we lost to Donald Trump. And the cult of conservatism that has grown and grown and grown has driven a wedge between millennial woman and her father,” she said.

I'm saying don't cheerlead people like Harris or Walz. Don't portray them as cuddly dads or stalwart progressives when they aren't. Be critical of them and demand better.

Yet everyone here is trying to turn this into some lib-lovefest for Harris/Walz, dutifully portraying them in the best way possible, shouting down any criticisms, desperately trying to uphold the Burgfriedenspolitik. Almost everyone here has bought into the "it's the evil usurpers vs the forces of light" narrative when the truth is they're both differently colored masks for the same genocidal settler empire.

Yes. Everyone. I'm totally doing that right now. Look at me just lovingly lovely love on Tim Walz who I have said nothing about beyond him being one of two viable VP choices and suggesting that the American far-right doesn't actually like him.

Which is basically the equivalent of sucking someone's cock, am I right?

And I guess that whole stopping responding to me comment was a lie.

You are though, you really are adamant about upholding Burgfriedenspolitik within the dem base, I just don't think I will be able to explain to you what I mean by that within this context.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I am? Please quote me doing so.

Because I can quote you:

what are you even trying to say? Is it just word salad to get the last post in? Just DM me, you can have it.

Seems to me someone has a bit of an honesty problem.

[-] mathemachristian@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

You haven't DM'd me so.... is this your request for the last post?

As for your adherence to Burgfriedenspolitik, it's demonstrated by your very first reply to me, dimissing my point because of the instance where I have a second account.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Once again, my reply to you had nothing to do with Tim Walz. I know you really want it to have to do with Tim Walz, but it was about you. Not him.

Unless you are Tim Walz. Are you Tim Walz? If so, buck up, little camper! You have self-esteem issues!

[-] mathemachristian@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

Once again, my reply to you had nothing to do with Tim Walz.

Thats my point! You ran nose-first into what I'm talking about when I say "dismissing my point" and "shouting down criticism"!

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Your point is that I'm part of a love-fest for Tim Walz by not talking about Tim Walz? Holy fuck, almost 8 billion people love Tim Walz!

[-] mathemachristian@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

Can you really not see it? Are you trolling me?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

No. I really can't see how I'm part of a love fest for someone I'm not talking about, but I am talking about you.

I guess you're having a love fest for Pol Pot right now since you're talking about me and not Pol Pot.

[-] mathemachristian@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

Best of luck to you then, you'll need it.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

What exactly do I need this luck for? Pointing out other needlessly aggressive Hexbear users?

[-] mathemachristian@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

You'll need it for understanding other peoples point of view. Have a good one.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Understanding the point of view of a Hexbear user and thinking the way it's presented is ridiculously aggressive and full of people who come across as they have no joy in their life and live to be angry is a good way to present that point of view are two different things.

This is not about your point of view no matter how much you try to make it about that.
