Since this is such a new community, the contest did not catch on. That is OK and I will continue to try and grow the community in hopes that once a critical mass is reached, the contest can be resumed.

I will be editing the sidebar to reflect these changes in the coming hours/day or so, and will be holding occasional polls to see if there is any interest in restarting the competition.

For now, feel free to post anything graffiti related including art you have created, that which you have enjoyed, articles, paint and marker reviews, how-tos, etc.. I hope to take some more walks around my city and post some more of my own stuff in the near future and look forward to seeing posts from you all as well.

Cheers!

I took a walk around my neighborhood today. None of this is my art, but I enjoyed it and thought I'd share.

More to come. Next time I'll walk in a different direction.

Hello all!

I'm happy to report that over the week we have gained 18 new subscribers. Unfortunately, there are only two entrants to the competition this week. I suppose this was to be expected, as this is a brand new community and things like this can take a while to catch on.

In lieu of this, this first iteration of the competition will remain open for a month, rather than a week, giving some time for new people to discover the thread and work on their pieces. The stickied thread has been edited to reflect this.

If you are interested in competing in this contest, the prize of which is to pick the next word and have your piece featured as the community banner, you've got 3 more weeks to do so! Please spread the word to those you think might be interested and I look forward to seeing what you all come up with!

ETA: A special thanks to @deceptichum@quokk.au for being the first and only entrant, other than myself, so far! I hope to see more of your work in the future!

UPDATE: As this is a new community, the first iteration of this contest is extended for three more weeks. The vote will be tallied on December 21, at 18:00 UTC. Hopefully, this will provide enough time for the contest to gain a few more entries. Thanks to all of our new community members and I look forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Each Monday, beginning at 18:00 UTC, a new contest will be held in which artists may submit a work of graffiti art depicting the chosen word of the week. The artwork which receives the most upvotes by Sunday, December 21, 18:00 UTC, will be deemed that weeks winner. The winner of that week’s contest gets to pick the next word.

As this is the first ~~week~~ month, the first word will be: tagbloc

As added incentive, for this first ~~week~~ month, the winner's piece will serve as the new community banner.

Please read the rules and feel free to make a submission before the deadline. You do not have to make a submission to vote.

A community for graffiti artists to hone their skills through friendly competition.

~~Each Monday, beginning at 18:00 UTC, a new contest will be held in which artists may submit a work of graffiti art depicting the chosen word of the week. The artwork which receives the most upvotes by Sunday, 18:00 UTC, will be deemed that weeks winner. The winner of that week's contest gets to pick the next word. ~~

The contest has been suspended until enough interest has been generated to give it another shot. Until then, feel free to submit works of street-art (your own, or just that which you enjoy seeing) in accordance with the rules below, which still mostly work despite there not being a "contest" at the moment.

Rules:

  1. Don't be a dick. As art is subjective, not all submissions will be enjoyed by everyone. Criticism is acceptable, so long as it is constructive. This means if you are going to tell someone that you don't like their art, you must also tell them why and how you would personally improve upon it. The goal is to help one another progress as artists, not to put one another down. 1a. As a caveat, if you are uncomfortable receiving criticism, you may write NO CRIT in your post. Posts including NO CRIT can be voted on, however no comments may be made about this art, good or bad. 1b. Downvoting is not allowed on a submission under any circumstances. We are voting on the art we like and want to see win, not the other way around. If a competitor is caught downvoting, their submission will be disqualified for the week.

  2. All submissions must be in a physical medium. This means no digital artwork or AI. All physical media submissions are acceptable. This includes anything including paint, pencil, stencil, or even macaroni art if that is what you choose.
2a. You do not need a fancy scanner to submit your entry. Cellphone photos of the work are perfectly acceptable.

  3. Anyone may submit an entry.

  4. You may vote on your own submission, and on more than one submission, however, it is encouraged that you just pick the one that you like the best to help prevent ties.
4a. In the event of a tie, a runoff vote will be held between the tied submissions. These votes will take place between Sunday 18:00 UTC and Monday 15:00 UTC.

  5. If you do not wish to participate in the competition, but you want to talk about or share graffiti you enjoy, you are welcome to post here outside of the competition thread. Bear in mind that street art is illegal under many circumstances and I am not responsible for what happens to you if you face consequences for posting your own art on the internet.

These rules are subject to change as needed and suggestions are welcome. This is my first ever community and I'm sure I won't get it right the first time. - y0kai
