There are some people I talk to on multiple platforms & it would be incredibly useful if I could see all of these conversations in one place.

I understand this isn't trivial but this is how I would expect it to function:

  • New UI element that the send button includes a drop down to select which platform you want to message this person on.
  • Default response is configurable per conversation and can be set to "respond on their most recent platform"
  • If you reply in a thread, it always uses the platform that thread is from

I understand this is a non trivial amount of work to implement but it would be so incredibly handy! Thanks for reading.

Basically, what the title says ~ is anyone having issue with beeper right now?

Update: Seems to be working again now 🤷

Firstly ~ I'm a huge fan of beeper! Can't wait for a paid tier to come out so I can support it. I recently got my partner on to beeper as well & I was wondering what platform do y'all prefer for messaging with other people also on beeper?

At the moment we're using WhatsApp via beeper (we were using WhatsApp before) ~ I'm considering moving to matrix on beeper, but it seems much less feature complete (Can't show her profile picture on it since rooms can only have one photo for everyone, typing indicator doesn't function, etc.) I'd like to move away from Meta-owned WhatsApp. What do you suggest?

Brad Murray has confirmed that all bridges will migrate away from being Matrix Appservices (“cloud bridges”), although the option to self-host your own version of beeper’s Appservices will remain an option

Brad Murray The current plan is for each client to send and receive with their own locally running connections, as opposed to letting one client use another client's connections to send in real time. We've had some pretty bad experiences with the old androidsms bridge with that architecture (since only your Android phone could send or receive a SMS).

Brad Murray We're still going to keep all our bridges open source and usable as Matrix Appservices, so if you want to use any Matrix client it's probably best to self-host against Beeper's homeserver (which we'll still support) or just run your own homeserver with our open source bridges

Built for speed and performance, with a complete redesign of the look and feel. You'll be able to try it for yourself soon…

A small sample of the many new features:

  • OLED black theme
  • Local message cache (all chats open instantly)
  • Add/modify chat networks (no need to set up on desktop)
  • Chat bubbling
  • Tablet (multi-pane) mode
  • Full message search (across all your chat networks)

He added, on Matrix, “Plan is to offer local bridges for all encrypted networks”

Although confirming this would be the case at launch, it was unclear specifically which networks are counted as encrypted.

By default, iCloud backups are (1) enabled and (2) unencrypted

You would have to get not only yourself and every person you’re chatting with to manually enable encryption for their iCloud backups on their iPhones, but also every device they have that is using iMessage

Update: it may be limited to those using a hackintosh in conjunction with beeperserv (the jailbreak tweak). Still kind of lousy of them to lock the reddit topic though…

Several users recently reported that after using pypush—the tool that Beeper paid $25,000 for in order to build Beeper Mini—Apple banned their genuine Apple hardware devices from accessing iMessage.

When their comments were shared to the r/Beeper subreddit, one of the mods whom Beeper appointed decided to lock the comments, citing the “need to investigate this further” and directing concerned users to “reach out to support through the appropriate channels.”
