Original question by @SPRUNT@lemmy.world

For example, my runner-up is Ice-T: A notorious gangster rapper and "Cop Killer" singer currently in his 25th year in the role of CSI detective for the NYPD.
My top spot goes to Snoop Dogg: notorious gangster rapper and marijuana enthusiast who is now besties with Martha Stewart and in demand for cameo voice-overs in children's programming.

Of course, if schadenfreude is your thing, there's legendary comedian-cum-rapist monster Bill Cosby, or the recent falls of any number of the now mask-off nazis permeating the media.....

So, what is your favorite real-person character arc?

I’m asking as I’m trying to understand empathy and whether it’s normal to get so invested in fake characters, I mean it’s probably a testament to the writers but I overthink… a lot.

This question was bright on as I’ve been catching up on The Blacklist and at lunch today watching Season 8 Episode name “Anne “ and it wrecked me.

Tap for spoilerBasically the main character Red has to live a guarded life and for once he let it form and got close to Anne and you could tell shit was going to go downhill and it destroyed me when you think about it from his or her perspective.

For reference I’m 41 year old dude, not that it matters.

Edit: Bedtime for me but back tomorrow to reply to all.

I used to really enjoy sites like this. I know there's joke accounts on Twitter and other sites here and there, but I haven't seen anything lately that has the whole site as one big running gag.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q%26A_comedy_website

A Q&A website is a website where the site creators use the images of pop culture icons, historical figures, fictional characters, or even inanimate objects or abstract concepts to answer input from the site's visitors, usually in question/answer format. This format of website, most popular in the early 2000s, evolved from the much older Internet Oracle. The original progenitor of this type of site was the now-defunct Forum 2000. The Forum 2000 claimed to have run the site by means of artificial intelligence, and the personalities on the website were called SOMADs, or "State Of Mind Adjointness pairs". However, later Q&A sites usually dispensed with this pretense, with the most extreme example being Jerk Squad!, on which the administrators of the site provide many of the answers.

I found out that my mom is using an older phone that serves her just fine, but last recieved updates in 2021.

Realistically, how dangerous is this? What are the scenarios that could potentially happen with a phone that out of date?

She may be open to something like lineage OS, but I don't want to make her phone less familiar for her, which would be harder to use. She is not very techy but also not fearful of a little tinkering. I don't live near her so she will not have anyone knowledgeable to troubleshoot if the need arises.

I'm not a infosec person at ALL so I genuinely don't know what she is exposed to.

Let me know if I should post this in another community instead.

I've seen people consider even 5'7" as short for some reason so i'm curious if it has happened with someone

By "near" I mean like a sphere of 10 Meters around them. You can't manipulate them directly, it has to be a non-living object. You also can't cause anyone else to die before their fated time of death.

So, how do you embarass them.

Trip them down the stairs? (zero injuries remember)

Drop their mug while they try to drink water?

C'mon, what's the most embarassing thing you can do?

I’ve heard people say, (paraphrased) “work is work: if your going to give me free time then let me go home.”.

On the other side, an impromptu surprise that you get to be relieved of your responsibilities for the day and go do something fun seems like it would be beneficial for people’s mental health and creativity.

Yet, one can imagine if someone had a sick child at home, or some other concern that infinitely more important than work that it might be a bit torturous to go out and try to have fun with your coworkers when you would rather, and rightly so, want to be home attending to the more important thing.

Although I would want to be the type of leader that I person would feel comfortable just telling that they needed to go home if such a matter of importance were to arise.

If you gave a person a choice at the beginning of their job between a day off or an office field trip, most would probably just choose an extra day off.

Yet, much like buying a gift card for someone you know would never spend money on themselves perhaps it could be a more memorable and helpful experience for them to go out and have fun with no responsibilities.

Yet this may simply be an expression of the lonely ness and desire for human connection that I personally feel, due the current circumstances of semi isolation (just me and my partner) in a new and strange city.

I am not a CEO, I just graduated and I’m working to get my first job. One day I would like to lead people, and perhaps this, per my lack of knowledge, seems a bit farcical, but I wanted to gather some opinions, thanks!

Fled Reddit to join lemm.ee a few months ago. It was a glorious few months, and I hope the admins know how appreciated their work was.

I'm very sad but grateful that there was a place to go where I felt like I could speak freely, read, and share information that is being suppressed on other platforms.

I was wondering what recommendations people might have for any instances that are allowing new users, and seem to have found a good balance between avoiding disinformation/astroturfing/bad actors, without swinging too far in the opposite direction and potentially suppressing information?

Anyone have any cool projects for an old Nintendo Switch? The thing had stopped charging, I took the back off, looked at it and noped out, put the back on and it started charging again. But now the left side isn't charging the controller. My parents got my kids a new one, so we have this old Nintendo Switch now.

Anyone do any fun/silly/nerdy things with their old switch?

No marriage, no kids, exclusively transactional romantic relationships. Maybe I’m a bit too aloof and pragmatic, but these 3 have made my life buttery smooth.

So, Ive recently gotten back into writing and been thinking about how much more fun it would be to write Outside. Problem is, the sun hates screens. I have an Alphawrite Neo, of course, but I've always been insecure about lugging a weird educational device around with me in public. So I started looking into Eink tablets that could be used with a keyboard and

Jesus H. Christ, that price tag!

I just want something to type on something. Apparently thats strange, so maybe there will be something cheaper as just a word processor. It seems that the only reasonable offering here is the Freewrite Traveler, though, so I look it up and

WHY‽ It's the same price!

Okay, maybe I could just get a Raspberry Pi 400 and attach an eInk monitor to it. Apparently, this is not the usual use-case for E-ink, but there are in fact e-ink monitors out there! Most were around a thousand dollars for some reason, but here is the cheapest one I could find:

That's around the price point of a Boox Go, for reference, which has a really slow screen refresh rate.

Why is there no affordable e-paper products that arent a pain to use? I am aware of cheaper ones, but the ones ive seen reviews if aren't able to keep up with typing in a way that seems responsive. And I'm aware that you can find eink displays (as in the component) for as low as $30, so they should be able to be cheaper than this!

Good day everyone.

My wife was wondering if anyone recommends any kind of weighted stuffed animal. Her therapist said it could help ground herself, but she has no clue what is a good quality and a good weight.
