I had a thought about my DSA chapter getting an influx of people not anything crazy but like 10 people. now I know they guy that inducted me in when I was "a tire kicker" (I use that as a slur) was good at explaining the chapter, but like how would he stay in contact with 10 people. would other members take on new "inductees". the issue is that I have to explain what the chapter does but all the interesting things are counties away and I have to explain what they do in the area. basically I need to work on an elevator pitch, and its kind of hard to get motivated when everything they do spaced out and projects aren't exactly materializing. I'm kind of wondering about the long term member. at this point I messaged them about making a recruitment script, and I'm probably going to make a recruitment script and submit it to them. ill share updates hopefully as they come. I still wonder how the long term members would deal with an influx of strangers, most of us are on the introverted side.

also im making a business card of myself in my contacts so people can take a picture and get my contacts

Fast forward to 2026: PayPal just fired its CEO, the stock is sitting at its lowest level since 2017 (sub-$44), and the company is trading at ~7.4x forward earnings.

A few years ago, the narrative was that PayPal was a long-term fintech winner with strong leadership and a durable moat. That did not age well.

Attended another anti ice protest this time in Fort Walton Beach Florida, definitely red area, and it went great. The turnout was around 30 people, but it has some amenities like a speaker to play music and a table with lemonade and cookies. Crazy to see the so well put together. Also there where extra signs for participants.

It was about 2 hours of dancing and flag waving for me, other people brought their inflatables. Referencing protest from major cities.

Honestly the support was overwhelmingly positive, you can tell everyone honks their horn in support. I iterated my reactions to positive honking by dancing, to waving, to eventually waving my flag harder. Also other people blew the ICE whistle.

The megaphone on my side is great for hecklers. Because I know they can hear me and they drive to far away for me to hear them. If anyone flipped us off or said "fuck you" I said "abolish ice", another guy said will get deported or whatever and I say "I'm American". My favorite was this guy in a truck waving his Confederate flag and maga hat screaming whatever and said " my family fought on the side of the union". The guy even did a pass back making sure the flag was visible on the passenger side. Of course there was so many shoulda coulda woulda to say after that happened.

I did hand out DSA business cards I made to hopefully get people to organize.

I do enjoy this protest more since I didn't get the f-slur thrown at me. Kinda makes me want to put up the LGBT flag to help make more progress for LGBT folks

Lol like Andrew meant star puncher in ancient language that no tale or legend can recall.

Kinda a thought that pops into my head from time to time about if people that lived well before writing wanted to leave an eternal legacy and at best we see their remains dressed in ornaments.

It's interesting to think that someone that lived 50k years ago paved a path for me in the sense that they probably exploded lands weren't known to their tribe or human at the, found new edible plants, or maybe created a new tool.

Crazy to think that there's billions of humans that I contributed to the life I have know and their names have long since been lost to time and that what I do today can still affect someone well into the future

Stressing myself out (sh.itjust.works)

I realized I boxed myself into a corner and put myself in solitude. I bad at asking for help.

Really it started when I got pulled over by a cop on my bike for not having lights at night. The interaction did suck because I had to ID myself and turn back home, but that was nothing. Really the cop stopped me from doing a felony(I won't say exactly what it is but I have gotten support to do it. No i didn't intend to harm any innocent person) that I was stressing about doing and dragged myself into doing because I thought it was "public service". Like I thought I was well prepared but I failed so fast.

Everything ICE has done in the news has stressed me out to the point of not following the news. I did join a group of protesters, which was fun. I came up with a plan to deal with ice that's near impossible to detect with human senses and of course I won't articulate in this post. The idea of maming an ice agents weighs heavy on me, like I imagine myself being disabled. Also escalation in the conflict between ice and public. I spaced out writing that sentence. I hope that the peaceful resolution is that it simply gets too expensive for ice to operate and they simply reduce the scope of their operations.

All these emotions have made me mildly depressed and I feel like it's effecting my involvement with DSA, like im missing meeting I don't intend to and I'm not enthusiastic about the meetings, but I also wish my chapter did more in my area, I do feel like I'm waiting for them to announce something

Streamers should have an owncast as a back up

Thought about Jordan Peterson was put into a coma to get over his addiction to sleep aids. The drugs he took would have killed him if he went cold turkey, same with alcohol, but with other drugs it's perfectly fine to go cold turkey.

Like I could see if you have an addiction to pain meds and cravings are too much

I wish I could tag this as discussion.

I'm getting little annoyed at people only say "protest are useless" then proceed to suggest nothing and do nothing just to keep us in a state of complacency with the status quo.

Protest do have a function they do show those in power that people are opposed to policy or politician, but more importantly they show that other people the people that live in their city or local area are willing to show their political stance publicly. It can raise awareness and pull people in the margin to your side. from what I experience, it can show the right that they wont act on their violent words.

I get that the opposition to protest say that it never changed anything or trump continues to act crazy, and I'd say that we need to do more in addition to the protest not that we shouldn't do protest. I'll need someone that advocate not doing protest to speak in the comment.

I want to see protest "upgrade" from a gathering of people to meet-and-greets and concert. If you are at a protest you should actually enjoy it, show off your signs explain it to other protestors, and talk with other people on what to do locally. I would suggest promoting a business at a protest.

protest are good way to get around social media algorithms

yeah primaries was a train wreak in slow mo. like I was telling people I did not give a crap that Kamala was chosen by Biden as a successor she's still better than trump by far. I couldn't really think of any reason from them to vote for trump

the problem with a civil war is collapse of the supply chain for most people, and you'll have to become useful to get protection

Reminder of the details for those of you who have a hazy memory of the finale. ICE looked at Vic Mackey's resume including many charges, complaints and allegations of excessive force, and that he was a prime suspect in multiple murder investigations, and said "Yes please! Have full immunity!"

Good thing nothing like that would ever happen in real life.

Little repost bot (sh.itjust.works)

So I made a script that post once every 8 hours or where I start the script. The script will post to random c/ that has subscribers but low activity from a corresponding subreddit in hopes of jump starting it.

I do like the features where the image/video is simply put the url into the URL of a lemmy post so Reddit host the file and lemmy instances simply have to send text.

So far it has been a success. While I was building the script and making it post to my very niche 1 sub community the post ended up getting a few comments and over a dozen up votes. Which is great because I got surprised and I got to engage with other users and learn about something new.

Really the challenge is to find existing communities that don't have a active counterpart, have subscribers, have little to no activity, and something I have knowledge over. It would be strange to have something posted randomly and know nothing about that community or post or I have to spend 10 minutes figuring out what got posted

mine had 15-20. I felt good, it was exciting, did a good bit of movement and got to experience new things. I do know gay community still gets hate let alone the rest of the LGBT community.

This is why I work on blind solidarity. If a leftist organization organizes something and I like it I help it and assume they're better than Democrats. If I think its demonic I ignore it.

Plus I like bragging about achieving to an infighter
