as someone who used NixOS on desktop for two years, using AerynOS shows NixOS is not really good for that use case yet (assuming you're using what nixpkgs provides and not doing a major amount of overrides and patches and using alternative repositories).

It's staggering how much more polished AerynOS is to NixOS on desktop. So my current take, AerynOS is great for an intermediate users desktop, NixOS is a good option for server.

Damn, didn't the vote for greens end up greater than what they have received in the past? Like i even saw the ABC spin it like the greens lost steam this election. It seems kinda misleading, if not malicious to the purpose the greens aim to serve in politics (and so really any party left of labor). 👀

edit: hhhhhhhhhhhhh literally from the same platform https://www.crikey.com.au/2025/05/06/the-greens-federal-election-result-adam-bandt-labor-liberals-coalition/

thank you :D

i can also see 21 is the latest LTS version so that sounds like a good reason for that compromise too!

Hi ^_^

I usually keep to the latest java version, because I like using the new features!

But I did some light contextual testing (user story stuff) and found that a lot of pre-built server jars are not necessarily on the latest java.

This usually causes classpath issues which I think could be a block for why people haven't started using the plugin (as it appears to not work).

Is there a sweet spot or convention I should stick to? Like, for example

  • to stick 5 major releases behind, or
  • stick to the next most backwards compatible release
Also, how do you check yourself in this lonely period; before you have actual server owners/testers providing these reports/feedback?

that's perfectly reasonable at the moment
