Came here to say this.
Butter and marmite. Just make sure to use two knives, unless you're an animal.
They've added a sticky explaining (sort of) their reasoning. And also apologizing to those who think they should remain closed. I was going to cut and paste some parts but then the 5 minute daily screen timer I've imposed for 'the app that shall not be named' ran out.
Something about standing in front of a dam with a sieve.
I popped over to the site that shall not be named for a look, and was dissappointed to see so much of it was back open, with users posting away. But well done CasualUK for sticking it out.
Kids are off to school and I'm sitting in the sunny back garden listening to trains and having a fantastic homemade espresso. Perfect. All downhill from here.
This thread is asking for trouble
I think the most important rules is the "no politics" one. Personally, I have GAD and need to avoid news for my mental health. Casual UK has helped me feel that I'm interacting with community/society without having that interaction polluted by politics.
I just went straight to Feddit.UK after reading that it was best to choose small, but not too small instances. And yeah, it's been great. The only issue I've found is that joining communities from other instances can be slow - I assume that if you're the first subscribers on your instance it has to do some fetching of data. Yesterday it took me 10-15 minutes to join one community.
I just had a massive cup of tea and an even larger slice of cake. I regret nothing.
Fark eh. I used to have a double digit account number of there. Those were the days.
Thanks for the welcome! I'm on a discord called Super Backlog Bros (although admittedly I'm not active on it) and they have a series of knockout polls over the month to choose games for the subsequent month. Personally I have kids and am halfway through FF6, so that's me for a while. But I like the idea of a community playthrough.
What about one or two regular weekly threads perhaps? e g. "New Pickup Monday"?
The Mastodon instance I'm on has blocked all known Meta IPs as a preventative measure. So I imagine some admins will federate and some won't, and users will be free to join the instance that they wish to.
