Had a relative switch to Linux recently. Lenovo IdeaPad computer running windows 10. The stuff was getting insanely slow and battery life was reduced ton the point that it was being a pain to use. Backed all the documents and data on a local instance of dufs running on home server and installed Linux Mint on it. Had minor issues regarding WiFi and Bluetooth. Solved the wifi one but bluetooth is still a bit unstable sometimes. Came back 1 week later and the user is delighted. Says that everything works 3 times faster than on windows and that battery lasts 3 times longer. They also went on themselves to look for open source alternatives to windows apps they were using and installed them. That's a win !

I'm french and your representation is oversimplifying and not even close to grabbing the complexity of the real world

Indeed, was there and after checking it, everything works as good as windows support, so perfect ! Just need to disable RST and install Mint now :)

Hybrid PC/Tablet support (programming.dev)
submitted 7 months ago by return_void@programming.dev to c/linux@lemmy.ml

Dear fellow linux users,

I'm comming to you for help. One of my family members recently got fed up with windows bloatware and I managed to get them ready for a switch to Linux. This person's daily driver is a hybrid PC/tablet machine ( Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 510-12IKB ).

I booted a Linux Mint live usb session to check hardware compatibility and almost everything is working fine. The only exception is the virtual keyboard display, when physical keyboard is disconnected. It never appears. Would a full install with third party stuff fix the issue ? This is a blocker for the person, and I'm wondering if any of you have experience with switching on a same model, and would advise any distro that comes with full support of the hybrid PC/tablet hardware.

I tried to look for answers and non of the ones I find are recent enough. Some mention hardware compatibility issues (wifi, camera) that have been resolved and are working according my live session test.

Completely understood and i agree that it is a bit irritating to put a lot of money on cloths and get them scratched the next day ! I try to buy the same and honestly shop a lot on https://www.wedressfair.fr/ lately. The brand colorful standard makes stuff that lasts long enough for me and that is pretty classic stuff, no hipster style necessary.
