I'm not mad at the huge amount I pay in taxes. I'm mad about what I get in return.

Shoot fish with lasers. No need to compensate for refraction, problem solved.

Elon has stated his distaste for Apple, and seems to be taking it out on its users. Who are notoriously, well...dedicated. Oh, and there are viable alternatives to Xitter, both federated and not.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm sure I'm just too stupid to see how this is a Big Brain move here...

As far as physics stuff goes, I think this is far preferable to using someone's name.

Maybe a dumb take, but I think milking customers for all they're worth is much better option than what HP is seemingly doing

which is milking them for all they're worth this quarter.

Like, there are companies with a cult like following (Valve comes to mind) and while they could probably increase profit for a quarter or two, they seem to be playing the long game fairly well. Which is ultimately better for everyone

they get more money over your lifetime, and you get a product that you're happy with.

Other comment says there is a way from inside, just not outside (which doesn't help with a young kid/toddler/baby is the inside passenger of course).

Either way, glad this is "only" a huge embarrassment, and not a dead kid.

I would be surprised if you couldn't get 8KB for 200 years out of standard flash simply by extreme duplication

8GB/8KB means a million copies on one (very small by today's standards!) drive.

Or is the failure mechanism something other than bitrot?

I don't like your jerk-off beer, I don't like your jerk-off glass, and I don't like you...jerk-off.

...but where would a brother shamus find such an item? Asking for a friend.

In some ways I think the filesystem is philosophically the exact opposite of systemd

I can boot my system with an ext4 root, with a btrfs /home...or vice versa. Or add some ZFS, or whatever. The filesystem is (with the exception of some special backup schemes) largely independent of the rest of the system, despite being of core importance.

On the other hand, I can't change my init system (i.e., systemd) without serious, serious work.
