Who becomes obscenely rich in these gangs, people that ask for money on the streets? Obviously in big cities with a lot of tourist traffic there bound to be criminal organisarions that try to monetize suffering.

[-] nesc@lemmy.cafe 18 points 9 hours ago

I try to give a bit of money, reasons like they are going to spend it on *bad thing* aren't for me to judge or evaluate and people don't become rich from begging on the streets. There is also a bit of a hope that someone will give me a bit of money if situation will reverse once.

Not exactly barbecue, but eating meat cooked on coals somewhere outside is pretty popular in my corner of eastern europe.

A lot of the prominent members of ~~terrorist~~ paramilitaries that later formed tzahal were from r*ssian empire a lot of theorists as well, specifically from territory of modern Ukraine mostly due to "pale of settlement" policy of the empire. I think that's what gp hinted at (don't know what language they spoke predominantly, mostly yiddish I think).

What DE or WM (and distro if relevant) do you use for your actual, professional work?

KDE/Arch

Was this a choice by you or pre-selected by the employer? Do they allow you to work on your own device if desired? (Excluding freelancers obv.)

Choice was made by me (everyone except one person at the time was running arch with kde as well ๐Ÿ™ƒ). Yeah, bringing your own device was allowed as long as disk was encrypted.

Do you need to balance stability vs. customisability? Or is that a no-brainer for you? (="Have you ever had to cancel a meeting because an Arch update broke your screen sharing?")

No, this never happened to me with work machine, arch is extremely simple to maintain as long as you follow simple procedure of reading news and keeping out-of-repos packages to minimum.

How much time do you find reasonable to put into maintaining/developing your setup?

Maintaining - up to an hour a week. Developing - dunno, I haven't changed things since kde 5 - 6 transition and it was a small change as well.

Did distro choice (or lack thereof) impact your choices for DE/WM?

Who knows, probably not.

Do you feel like your code editor, language stack, or job profile has an impact on the choices? For example, is your profile very specific ("I go to dailies and turn tickets into code / I work alone for weeks at a time researching stuff"), allowing you to optimise the setup further?

Well, emacs has some impact on my ~~psyche~~ worldview probably. ๐Ÿ˜„

Someone with a gun can just murder you outright with you having no way of defending against it. It doesn't make guns something that's beyond understanding. Same with anything that can damage another person.

Why would they need to keep secrecy and who exactly is going to get them into psych? People can deal with a child, and magic in harry potter universe is reversible and not permanent for the most part. There are multiple new families with magical children every year and they don't recieve any guidance as well, yet they manage somehow without being assholes for the most part.

Is it compatible with openra?

[-] nesc@lemmy.cafe 11 points 2 days ago

What's there to understand? It's not like magic or people with magic are from call of cthulchu rpg and damage sanity from interaction, they are as normal as you can get I don't think you can make magic any more boring and mundane then it is in Harry Potter.

I mean, yeah, your points are valid as long as you squint hard enough and disregard some cartoonisly evil shit.

Recommendation to use librewolf is extremely unhelpful and/or dumb, it's unusable by default for vast majority of people (everyone really) due to insane defaults that break every second web-page.

Videoconferences? Forget about it. Images that look normal? You don't need them. And so on, even tor browser is more usable then this.

It's just extremely funny, worst day for r*ssian strategic aviation ever. Achieved by: short range fpv drones and trucks

Hey, I am looking for an advice on buying my second printer. I am looking for a machine that prints every day for 10+ hours mostly without me looking at it. Which one is better for the task?

Currently I'm deciding between Bambulab A1 and Sovol sv06 ace +. They cost more or less the same in my part of the world and sovol has a bigger print volume and seemingly less scummy (to date) company behind it. While bambu is super popular and pretty reliable.

I dreamed about something like this just yesterday, is this a sign? Will we see plasma guns destroying tanks in two weeks?

I am a lot more excited by this release compared to any other "big" models. Downloading it right now. Graphs/benchmarks are a bit of suspect as they always are. What do you think?

Silly thought that stuck with me today.

Is there any explanation for achievments in universe? Like Commander has a little notebook where he counts numbers of killed krait or centaurs? ๐Ÿ™ƒ

I understand that they are mostly for gameplay purposes, but in my imagination he stops at that bar in Divinity Reach once in a while and shows everyone his progress. On the other hand most of the side quests are done as collections/achievments so there must be some way for him to track these things.
