I don't quite understand how it works. Union Station will connect to Oglevie? How does that help?

They're already not very far from one another. If I needed to get to Oglevie from Union station, I can walk on the street... but now there will be a tunnel linking the two? Wouldn't the tunnel be the same distance? Also, how does that get me to St Louis in 2 hours?

I feel like I'm missing something important.

Would be nice if Amtrak had publicly funded rails

Chicago railroads, a return of the king?

I attend public meetings with my city's officials with the goal of encouraging the development of bicycle infrastructure. Ped and public transit too.

Anyone know who MBJ is working with to replace Gia Biagi?

  • Developing a citywide network of bus rapid transit and dedicated bus lanes
  • Lowering speed limits to 20 mph on arterial streets and 10 mph on residential streets
  • Restricting right turns on red lights
  • Creating a connected and protected bike network
  • Developing a network of neighborhood slow streets
  • Creating a multi-disciplinary response to support the safety, health, and housing needs of people on transit
  • Working towards a municipal Plow the Sidewalks program
  • Limiting commercial traffic on residential streets
  • Citywide curb management program that addresses needs for deliveries, drop-offs, and accessibility
  • Adding new customer support personnel such as “transit ambassadors” to CTA’s staff
  • Better coordination among transportation agencies at different levels of government

Would be really great if MBJ lowered the speed limit citywide, eliminated rights on red, and expands alternative modes of transport like BRT and bicycle network

We should not be redefining The Drive, we should be reimagining our lakefront. We can NOT rebuild a highway on our lake, especially not in the face of a global climate crisis and traffic violence epidemic across our nation.

At the same time, the Chicago Park District is working on a new plan to revitalize Grant Park, our front yard. We want to make sure that in the 2023 Grant Park Framework Plan measures are taken to calm and limit traffic through the park while increasing pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

Our lakefront is one of Chicago's, and our region's, most cherished treasures and assets. We should respect it and respect all Chicagoans by investing in an active transportation corridor that provides safe access to our lake and our city.

We need new metrics for these projects so we can minimize Vehicle Miles Traveled, minimize vehicle emissions, and maximize accessibility and green space. We can do this by improving cyclist and pedestrian safety with raised bike paths and raised crosswalks, and increase access to the lakefront and parks. Maximizing access to the lakefront will require infrastructure, facilities, and programming that integrate Universal Design principles.

Adding more lanes to this highway or any highway won't fix congestion, it hasn't worked for decades. We need active transportation options like protected BRT or light rail which can move more people than any highway ever could.

Call on Rep. Ann Williams to:

  • Restart this flawed decade-long process

  • Eliminate the false sense of need for a highway on our lakefront.

  • Consider our climate, people, and environment when thinking about what our lakefront should look like. The current process does none of those things in a meaningful way.

  • Continue re-imagining by bringing more green spaces and better transit to the entire lakefront, for ALL Chicagoans.

9

Hope they reduce the speed limit in the city to 25 and use the revenue to support the CTA, bicycle stuff, and better pedestrian crossings.

What a pansy! Dude rides around with crumple zones, air bags, and a seat belt.

Out here, in the heartland, we rely on our individual skill to ensure our personal safety. The country is going to end up with all kinds of liberal regulations if this chump gets elected for federal office.

Confident big city rider here, four tips for you:

  • Be predictable
  • Obey (most) traffic laws
  • Assume everyone is always trying to kill you
  • Don't leave your bicycle outside

How many new subscribers would they have had in the same time period anyway?

Article says Netflix believes 100 million (half of all subscribers) houses were sharing passwords. Six million would be like 3% growth ...which is how much more then they would have if they didn't do this? 1.5% maybe?

It doesn't really seem significant

I think it's a bad idea to federate with Threads. If I understand correctly, we'd be mirroring Threads content and Zux' userbase in large. This would put undue stress on SDF equipment and degrade the user experience. Further, there is a lot of 'junk' on Meta's platform which we won't have a problem with if we don't engage with it.
