Well, it's technically true. Pedophilia, attraction to children (prepubescent youths), is generally best addressed with acknowledgement, treatment, and management.
Sexual assault, and rape, and predator practices are the crimes identified pedophiles are typically found participating in if their attraction to kids isn't addressed appropriately beforehand.
Ya'll don't really think being attracted to kids is a crime itself do you? Or that there aren't thousands, or tens of thousands, of people out there that are attracted to kids and just don't act on it, or haven't been identified?
Pedophilia, though specific in nature, is a similar subject to mental health in general, in how it's treated by society. As it becomes more acceptable to admit to having mental health conditions, the instances of those conditions leading to dire circumstances dimishes.
Be more proactive, and less reactive.
Note: though it should be clear enough, I do want to specifically state that this message in no way promotes or supports criminal actions taken towards children or knowingly disregarding such actions if the assailants are rich, or any other such nonsense.
Like being tall, or black, or gay, being a pedophile is a state of being, not an action, and people should not be attacked for their state of being, full stop. Crimes they commit are another matter entirely.
No 'reapeat offense' needed, once is enough. They were warned against such behavior when they were authorized to perform the duties of their office.
They should know better, and face consequences per instance, and summary dismissal without benefits after several offenses.
ACAB, and should face legal consequences for it until it's no longer true.
....
I heard police departments being shuttered and reformed as higher quality community services is far from unheard of.
Seems we need to put clear and functional systems in place to streamline to process of identifying and terminating corrupt agents within our society.
I mean, it's not like shuttering libraries or schools or firehouses due to corruption is even a thing. It their operators or employees are acting against social norms they are generally just terminated and replaced, no fuss.
Why is a cop allowed to commit crimes against their community but a librarian isn't?
Really looking forward to my SO upgrading away from their older lightening iPhone, and back to Android, maybe an e/os fairphone (they like the green one).
Community bikes are not a new thing. They had them in my hometown through most of my youth and teen years, and may still. I don't live there anymore. 🙁
They had a strong bike community, and a bike store and repair shop off a main ped/cycle path through town, just outside downtown. It had a lounge and was the primary source of the community bikes and their maintenance.
Paint the bikes all a similar bright color, not white, and get stickers made with info about use and contact info for pickup and repair.
Like, "I'm a community bike, use me as you like, leave me somewhere responsibly when you're done with me, so somebody else can use me too. Contact for pickup or repairs 555 RIDE 4ME"
Yeah, don't say you don't know if you do, that's lying, which is a crime in this situation. You can answer crime related questions with questions (avoidance). But don't do that for everything. If they push, start asking if you're free to go. If they say no, invoke the 5th.
Don't do their jobs for them.
Don't answer any questions that could incriminate you. Or talk to them in general. But be polite when you do speak.
Only tell them your name or provide other required identity information. Don't say where you are going or coming from. Don't explain anything. Don't tell stories. Don't lie.
I can definitely cut steal with my angle grinder.
Faraday bags work... But test them.
I got a cheapo $7 Chromebook sized bag that seemed to work for my SOs iphone. We don't use NFC so I couldn't test that.
No BT, WiFi, or Cell, and probably no GPS.
I only did casual testing.
The screen still showed the signal having low bars for WiFi and cellular, but it didn't actually receive a signal at all when trying to call or use the net, not even with the top of the bag open a sliver and my hand in there.
If the device was off or in airplane mode and in the bag, I'd be comfortable assuming it was safely hidden from tracking.
I haven't thoroughly tested my various personal devices, but I expect identical results.
I think everyone should probably have a bag like this around, in a go-bag or something, just in case. And it's safer to have your phone available than not, as long as it's secure (use a pin or password to lock it, use encryption, put emergency info on it for first responders).
To clarify:
This is a federated service that spans across all nations with Internet access, and the forum you posted this to is just Books.
If you want a localized book forum then create a new forum that's labeled as such.
I think that would be a weird choice, but you do you.
And if you just want to talk about books with anyone who has access to this forum, go ahead and post a book and start a conversation.
Only?... We need a public petition.
And a national civil lawsuit vs our gov.
I demand compensation beyond merely my financial losses.
They can cut back on spending on military projects and deals with billion dollar companies and tax the rich.
The money is there.
Not exactly, it doesn't mean the fed can just do whatever it wants, it means lower laws can't overrule higher ones, and puts the fed in the position to moderate conflicts between lower laws or contracts between parties that fall under federal law.
The fed doesn't have a law that specifically allows for the inhuman treatment of detanies, it has a law against it.
Local laws can be made more strict than fed laws, so long as they don't violate constitutional protections.
So the state or county or city, whichever is relevant, can't pass and maintain specific laws pertaining to the quality of human detainment facilities, and anyone in the territory, even the fed, would be legally obligated to respect that law.
However they could just buy a facility where they were welcome instead. Then the other territories law wouldn't apply.
