Six major European LGBTI organisations called on Portugal's Parliament to reject three bills that would dismantle the country's 2018 self-determination law, reintroduce medical gatekeeping for trans people, ban gender-affirming care for minors, and erase protections for intersex children. The joint statement, signed by ILGA-Europe, TGEU, IGLYO, OII Europe, EL*C, and Bi+ Equal, warned that Portugal would drop at least four places on the European Rainbow Map if the bills passed.

that the UK’s revisions to the Equality Act 2010 risk discriminating against and excluding transgender people.

The UN human rights experts warned that the updated Code of Practice essentially advises service providers that “a women’s service must either exclude transgender women or admit men” and vice versa. The experts cautioned that this “effectively presents exclusion as a means of” legal compliance, and may lead to institutionalized discrimination

Yes, no trans woman is going to detransition for sport.

And if they are post op they are not even going to produce any testosterone and would be at an even more severe disadvantage due to having no sex hormones.

It is literally incorrect. Trans women DO NOT have an advantage in sports. Transitioning fundementally changes the body, reducing muscles, bones, and more. Trans women are at a disadvantage if anything.

A 2024 paper published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine added to increasing evidence that transgender women are not naturally advantaged after transition. The paper, comparing transgender women, cis women, cis men, and transgender men who compete in regular competitive sport, found that transgender women had lower lower-body strength and reduced lung capacity than cis women . Bone density was also equivalent.

This study verifies what was reported by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) in 2024: that trans women who go through testosterone suppression and gender-affirming medical care do not possess a biomedical edge over cis women in sport. The CCES review of a decade’s worth of peer-reviewed research advocated for evidence-informed policies, rather than ones driven by prejudice or fear.

The retailer’s former CEO Shirine Khoury-Haq had told The Telegraph last May that she would “protect trans people to the end” following the Supreme Court ruling. The Co-op has since been hit by significant leadership changes, with Khoury-Haq leaving earlier this year after claims of a “toxic” culture in the workplace. Chair Debbie White also announced her resignation last Monday (10 August).

How much of this is leadership based.
