They are breaking it alright.
Agreed. I replaced the Reddit app icon in my launcher with the one for Lemmy (Jerboa). 98% of the time I'm just mindlessly scrolling and looking at images or memes and occasionally the interesting article. So far, even the minimal content on Lemmy (and Instagram and Tumblr) has filled that need.
Probably two or three times now I've pulled up Reddit specifically to look something up, and that just says to me how often I actually engage with the communities there that matter to me. Reddit will no longer be getting hundreds of hits per day from me. If I need to look something up, maybe I'll go look, and hopefully the communities I joined, like guitar, motorcycles, ADHD, pizza, and other niche interests, will develop elsewhere.
If we join, are we Nostrils?
Petition to name them SubLemmys
Rexit lol
I agree with you about the communities and forums. Those take years to develop, even with promising options like Lemmy. Reddit became so popular there was a niche community for literally anything you can imagine. I hope the enthusiasm carries over and develops elsewhere/here.
I hope the devs from the third party apps that Reddit is murdering are able to get similar/better jobs elsewhere. Maybe the dev teams whose platforms are now getting flooded with Reddit refugees could use the help.
I joined vlemmy.net today .. I think it said there was 1 other user when I joined lol. No idea what I'm doing but so far it seems like I can see all the content from other instances as well.
I'm currently using Jerboa (Android). Seems pretty good but I've only been here a couple hours. Have you tried it?
