From my hometown local heroes Repent emit Bay Area influenced thrash metal with hardcore style vocals.

Fast and hard, straight forward and no bullshit.

Founded in 1992 they have recorded four albums so far. Vortex of Violence is their best effort IMO.

These guys are kind of hidden champions. It’s a shame they don’t play live so often.

Let’s pretend Dream Theater origin from Tunisia and like AOR. Maybe we’d have a proper description of MYRATH.

This is VERY melodic progressive metal with tendencies to being kitsch. However IMO the band only approaches the border to being cheesy without actually crossing it.

The Arabic influence gives just the bit of originality.

The old thrash metal kid discovered his soft spot. 😆

@tatann you are right. But that may change in the future. A new album is coming out in September, I think.

@thagoat Yeah, the new video “cronenberged” is also nice.

I like this song by Revocation very much indeed. “Nihilistic violence” is a brutal hybrid of death and thrash metal.

Take a good listen at the spectacular tempo change at 2:30. 🤩

P. S. The whole album “Netherheaven” is really worthwhile.

Maybe currently Germany’s hottest Heavy Metal act - The Night Eternal.

Their latest album “Fatale” sounds very original to me which is a good deal on the singer’s behalf.

Rooted in classic HM like Iron Maiden, but more modern in overall sound. Melodic and somewhat hectic.

They don’t get the attention they deserve IMO. Maybe it’s the vocals which could be identified as the only weaker spot of this classy outfit. However it’s not a bad singer at all, don’t get me wrong.

Versatile thrash with many original twists which make the music recognisable.

Overall is their style not purely Teutonic. This time they rely on 3-minute songs with lots of good ideas in them. Good choice!

The solos are often top notch IMHO with an arabesque touch.

Personal faves on this one:

Faded Remorse

Assassin - Bestia Immundis

One of the oldest German thrash bands founded in 1985 they had to dissolve in 1989 when all their gear was stolen. They re-emerged in 2002 and are alive and kicking.

This album was released in 2020. It never fails to entertain me.

Really raw vocals and lots of good riffing. The occasional melodic vocal line can be found within the guitar noise, too.
Add a good load of gang shouts and there you go!

Personal faves:

Swamp Thing

How Much Can I Take

The Wall

@serpineslair By the way - I just read an interview with Angelripper. He said he plans to retire. No more concerts, no further plans for Sodom.

„This Godless Endeavour“ Nevermores geniale bisher letzte Großtat. Ein Meisterwerk des progressiven Thrash. Fein ziselierte Riffs, in den Refrains großartige Melodien und theatralischer Gesang.

Man weiß gar nicht, worauf man zuerst achten soll. Meistens packen dich die Hooks, aber dann gelingt es doch wieder, die detailreiche Gitarren- und Schlagzeugarbeit zu verfolgen.

#sanhedrin #heavymetal #vinyl #rezensionen They get better with each album. Favourites are hard to pick on this one. However if I had to choose one I’d pick ‘Heat Lightning’ because the second part is so damned captivating.
