I have a small book at home about the soviet bus stops. Apparently, designing buss stops was usually the first task entrusted to freshly graduated architects. Their unique designs were a result of these young architects trying to establish themselves and present innovative architectural ideas. Unfortunately, it also left quite a few bus stops that were expensive, impractical or difficult to maintain.

Not entirely true anymore - both male and female chicks are raised for meat, just different breeds than for commercial egg production. The large poultry company I used to work with raised exclusively female chicks, since they grew faster. The male chicks went into the grinder, as the other poster suggested.
