This is pretty good value https://www.gmktec.com/products/nucbox-g3-plus-enhanced-performance-mini-pc-with-intel-n150-processor

I bought one for self hosting and flashed it with Linux.

Threaten them with having to communicate with you using email - they'll install Signal 😂

Well, wouldn't you know it - leopards ate their face!

Oh.... I thought it meant that those cookie banners were 'false consent' and therefore render the data collected to be illegal?

Please provide more info - I would like to learn more about this subject!

If I have to wade through pages of "legitimate interest" nonsense, unticking them, then I'm not using your site.

Great idea! Two things

  • E2EE is a default in privacy by design so consider CryptPad for docs instead
  • change the name. Inline Style is terrible (sorry but to a native English speaker it sounds lame). How about just Inline?

Totally. Never let a crisis go to waste.

And if there's no crisis, invent one.

Post is in the link - simplest method possible please: my web dev skills are weak!

My web hosting company can't explain this.

My website is old school static, just HTML, CSS and js files. Nothing fancy.

No VPN, it loads fine. With VPN (various, but in my case Mullvad) it won't load. I get this screenshot. All other sites load fine with that vpn!

I'm running Mint, and have an external USB drive plugged in. It is not powered - it gets its power from the mini-PC.

Occasionally I get this message and I've no idea why. It might be after rebooting the machine but I'm not sure (sorry).

The only thing I did with the drive is rename it (to "1tbDrive"). Could that be the problem? (I did that in the Disks application).

This is an open question on how to get the masses to care...

Unfortunately, if other people don't protect their privacy it affects those who do, because we're all connected (e.g. other family members, friends). So it presents a problem of how do you get people who don't care, to care?

I started the Rebel Tech Alliance nonprofit to try to help with this, but we're still really struggling to convert people who have never thought about this.

(BTW you might need to refresh our website a few times to get it to load - no idea why... It does have an SSL cert!)

So I hope we can have a useful discussion here - privacy is a team sport, how do we get more people to play?

I thought people here might like to join this if you want to see what other privacy folk are talking about. I think it originated on Nostr.

I've been worried about this since Google switched to it in Feb this year.

Apparently the short answer is "you can't". Which is terrifying. Surely some clever peeps out there can find a way round it (for normies)?

I'm trying to find out where the development is at right now for ActivityPub, specifically about data (posts) portability, and persistent IDs.

For the former I think that's fairly self-explanatory, I'm just trying to get a flavour of if it's a priority, who's working on it, what the anticipated timeline is etc. It's a clear advantage that ATproto has, so are we trying to close the gap?

By the latter I mean is there work happening to work towards us being able to have one ID that can be used to log in to any fediverse network (as per nostr)? This approach makes so much sense to me - is it even possible?

The link here to W3.org doesn't seem that up to date - but I'm not that knowledgable so may have misinterpreted that site. So I'm looking for education on this subject 😊

For Hitler and Nazi Germany it certainly was a way to prepare for expansionist wars: https://www.richardjevans.com/lectures/autarky-fantasy-reality/

They're all 'one-party states' aren't they?

Opposite of democracy... so whether they work well economically is irrelevant, since you're relying on the party not to become totalitarian. 😬

Serious question: has communism ever been proved to work at scale? (not communist regimes, the communist ideology)

Anyone know if you can have a separate HTML file for the navbar and link to it from all the page files?

Updating the navbar in each page to ensure consistency is a pain!
