I have limited AI experience, but so far that's what it means to me as well: helpful in very limited circumstances.
Mostly, I find it useful for "speaking new languages" - if I try to use AI to "help" with the stuff I have been doing daily for the past 20 years? Yeah, it's just slowing me down.
We've hired a bunch of Indian guys who are using AI to do their work... the results are marginally better than either approach independently.
So, through my lifetime that "Work 8 hours" somehow evolved into:
Leave for work at 7am. Show up for work by 8am. Get an hour for lunch, unpaid. Leave work at 5pm. Get home approximately 6pm, if you don't stop to buy groceries or something.
I suppose commuting and lunch are supposed to be part of those "8 hours of play"?

I have a friend who has taught Online university writing for the past 10 years. Her students are now just about 100% using AI - her goal isn't to get them to stop, it's to get them to recognize what garbage writing is and how to fix it so it isn't garbage anymore.
One proposed Florida law I actually agree with is: phones off during school - all of school, including between classes and recess. Possible exception for lunchtime. Definite exception for when the teacher is specifically using the phones as a fully engaged teaching tool, which should be no more than 20% of overall classroom time, but definitely could be used as a way to "grab attention."
I get wanting to be able to track little Ginny and make sure she got to school O.K. and know when to go meet the bus to pick her up.
There should definitely be "Cybersafety" education in our schools, and the phone as a teaching tool definitely makes sense there.
Having AI write the first draft of your assignment can be a good lesson too, but the remaining 28 minutes should be spent understanding and refining what the AI has given you.
Simpler still: disenfranchise senile boomers. Of course you don't target boomers specifically, any old person with very little time left to live and severe disconnect from reality shouldn't be allowed to vote on what affects the rest of the world long after they are dead.
My University issued me a BS parking ticket a couple of weeks before graduation. I appealed, appeal was denied with no explanation. Fine was $20, no interest, no penalties. I ignored it. They refused to release my transcripts - oh well, that was 35 years ago now, haven't needed the transcripts yet. They did send letters to me for 10 years asking me to pay the $20 fine, I believe the postage alone amounted to over $20 by the time they gave up.

Over a thousand years of experience in legal maneuvering, they existed before the laws and watched them form over the years.
They've got the asset strategy down pat, what they've never had a handle on is their human factors - since we're all such flawed and sinful individuals, and they have a tendency to recruit from the damaged end of society to start with... denial is their weapon of choice against the Devil.
