And where am I ruling that out? I never said that this resistance would always be peaceful. But the sooner you start coordinating with the people around you, the better prepared for that violence we will be, and the better our chances are to prevent a lot of deaths. You can claim otherwise, but sitting alone while my neighbors and friends die is unconscionable to me.

But what am I deluding myself about? I have literally admitted that what we do may not be able to fix things entirely, but we doom ourselves more if we don't take action. You obviously know that already, given your statement about your footprint, so why are you arguing against another person calling for direct action?

Lol now I know you're trolling. Have a good life.

Yes I did. Mentioning the existence of a cashew product does not prove the claim that vegans are the reason for the increase in demand. Maybe you should read the sections that talk about the largest increases in demand, the largest markets for cashew products, and maybe look at the demographics of the countries that lead in demand.

Edit: Here are the major points for anyone who can't access the pages or is too lazy to read, btw:

From the first source: An increasing number of cashew-infused product manufacturers have attracted young and old consumers with the launch of new and innovative products, such as cashew-butter yogurt in the United States and roasted spice-coated cashew kernels in India. However, the application of cashew kernels in consumers' diets has been steady in South America, with multinational manufacturers penetrating the market with assorted cashew products, suiting the healthier diet regime across the country.

Asia-Pacific is the largest consumer of cashew nuts in the world. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the use of cashew nuts in regular diets and healthy ready-to-eat snacks. The rising number of manufacturers producing innovative cashew-based consumables has taken both young and geriatric consumers by stride. For example, roasted and spice-coated cashew nuts that appeal to the local palate were introduced in India. The demand for cashews in Asia has persistently increased as the imports for shelled cashews increased exponentially by over 700% from 4,321 metric tons in 2017 to 30,688 metric tons in 2021 in China, with Vietnam being the major import partner according to the ITC trade map. China leads the region in cashew import, followed by Japan, Thailand, and India, respectively.

From the second source, which talks specifically about the sales trends of processes cashew products, which are what vegans are being solely blamed for the increase in demand of in the article OP posted:

Based on product type, coated or flavored cashew is expected to be the leading product type in the global processed cashew market. Consumers' preference to eat salted cashew or various flavors is fueling the growth in the segment.

Processed cashew are widely used in the food and beverages industry in various products such as protein bars and powder, cereals and muesli, dairy products, beverages, bakeries & confectionery. Amongst all, bakery & confectionery holds a dominant market share in this segment as processed cashews are widely used in cookies and biscuits.

In other words, while there has been an increase in some products made with cashews that are solely eaten by vegans, the vast majority of demand and the vast majority of the increase in that demand comes from traditional uses and traditional markets, not from vegan dairy alternatives.

Yes! I make my own salad with fresh dill, onion and garlic powder, homemade mayo or olive oil, a bit of fresh basil, and baby spinach leaves to add some crunch. I just don't call it pasta salad or macaroni salad because the name is forever associated with blandness to me lol.

Carbon capture is more like chest compressions done by someone who isn't a medical professional while you wait for an ambulance. It isn't a replacement, by a long shot, but you can both provide limited assistance now and ask for better assistance.

Also, not sure why you say 'eventually' when we are already implementing several solutions to eliminate fossil fuels across the globe. I agree we aren't doing enough, but to act like putting effort into carbon capture is useless is acting in bad faith, because the only argument you have is that you are letting perfect be the enemy of good.

Either pumpkin pie or apple pie are my favorites!

Thanksgiving is for pies in my family, any other desserts wait until Christmas.

Honestly, more celebration and fun!

Coming out is a big deal, and yes it comes with some big downsides. I do not blame anyone who wants to call attention to their trans status as little as possible. But so many of us have internalized that shame that, even for those if us who wants to celebrate, it isn't seen as appropriate. That if we revel in our joy of self discovery, we are somehow not taking things seriously. That we are focusing too much on aesthetics and not on the (very real!) politics of simply living.

So go get those spinny skirts and spin until you are dizzy! Make a competition with yourself to fit as many things into your pockets as you can! Get those shirts with pictures of Barbies or dinosaurs or stars and wear them everywhere. Choose a weird nickname, learn to dance however you want, practice signing your new name with hearts and weird squiggles. Replay your favorite video games with characters and choices that reflect the new you and see if anything changes. Dive headfirst into a new hobby or group event that jives with your new expression.

Yes, being trans can suck. Dysphoria sucks, society sucks, and some days are worse than others. But, as someone with chronic illness as well, don't feel that you have to give in to that pressure of being a walking topic of serious conversation. Have those conversations as needed, but the rest of the time, you deserve to thrive in your own experience.

Not really? I actually get confused if people use mixed up idioms or other weird turns of phrase. It is really only this food item in particular.

I also like my ice cream to be soup lol! Pineapple on pizza is okay, but I can only have small amounts of pineapple. The rest are odd, but at least you know what you like!

Fellow trans guy here.

I hear and see you. I have been exactly where you are so many times since I came out almost a decade ago. Heck, I still feel like that from time to time, usually when my coworkers talk about ordering from the homophobic chicken place and then make half-assed excuses when they remember I am there. More than eight years into transition and I still get misgendered by my fellow queer people because they can't be bothered. I had to cancel my membership to a local gay charity group because they keep hosting events at a gay bar where the owner allowed a TERF group to harass a trans woman until she left the building in tears.

But I can promise that it isn't all bad, and that there is a place for you. I am married to my wonderful gay husband, who has gone above and beyond educating his friends and family about trans issues and chews out anyone who suggests that being married to me makes him bi. I love with him and our two best friends, a lesbian couple, one of whom is a trans woman. We both have an extensive friend group that we meet with weekly for games, as well as a kink group that they help run that is the most inclusive environment I have ever been in. I have a job where I can be open about who I am, and no one has ever given me an issue.

I am so, so sorry that you are not valued or respected by the people around you right now. I am not saying all of this to tell you you don't have to move. I am saying this as a way of encouraging you to remind yourself, every day, that you are worth it. You, exactly as you are, are deserving of understanding, of care, and of celebration. And if you are not getting that where you are now, you owe it to yourself to do whatever you need to to get to somewhere where that becomes reality.

I hope you find that space soon, and know that there are always people out there who have shared your experience. We will be here if you need to talk to someone about it, and I wish you all the best in your journey.

As someone struggling with this issue, thank goodness someone is working on this!

I had a previous landlord illegally sell a settled debt to collections under my deadname, which wasn't even my legal name at the time I had ended the lease at the apartment. They were aware of my legal name, as they had been accepting my checks with my new name for more than a year.

Because of this one item on my credit history, I have been unable to open bank accounts, apply for credit cards, or get loans because no one can verify my identity through the bureaus. I have sent several rounds of letters from myself and my lawyers to the credit bureaus and the collection agency providing the evidence that the debt was settled and demanding that they removed the item from my report, but they have refused to do anything to correct it.

Meanwhile, I know people who have changed their names several times due to marriages and divorces, and they have never had any issues verifying their information for financial situations. I am lucky to be in a relationship with someone who isn't using my situation as a way to exercise control over me, but I know other trans people who have been forced to stay on contact with abusers simply because their abuser has financial power over them. Whether it be loaning them money when normal loan avenues fail them, listing them as an authorized user on a credit card and then threatening to remove them so they can't buy anything, or providing them housing through special agreements because no one will rent to them without passing a credit check, there are so many ways that stuff like this makes life more dangerous for trans and nb people.

Stuff like this is intentional, unnecessary, and incredibly harmful for those of us who are just trying to live our lives.

I honestly don't remember a time before music was tied to emotions and events. Even as a baby I had a clear preference for classic rock over other genres, and if my parents couldn't get me to stop fussing they would put on the Eagles, Tom Petty, or America to get me to calm down. My tastes grew and evolved as I got older, but music has always been as much about the feeling I get from a song as it has been the quality of the song itself.
