This is why I asked if anyone could clarify for me. Thank you for explaining in a more natural manor, the language used to write these proposals is often confusing for me.

With your clarification, it definitely seems to me like the protections in place should stay there. Maybe there are issues with some of these companies, but I don't think removing these particular protections will change the issues I see, just stifle open speech.

This is exactly why I asked if anyone could clarify for me, I didn't understand what was really being put on the political table here. Thank you for elucidating, the language used to write these proposals is often confusing for me. I understand that's often done purposely by the people submitting such legislation, so I usually have to find someone who can understand it better then I can.

Answering my own question, it seems that "Sunset acts" are a common occurrence in legislation that end programs and activities that have more or less run their course or stopped being effective or meaningful.

The reason this Sunset Act is being mentioned is...

Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act was created to protect early internet platforms from lawsuits over user-generated content, a safeguard widely seen as essential to the internet’s development. As social media companies have become some of the nation’s most powerful and influential corporations, critics have questioned whether that protection should remain.

... so my understanding is that this Sunset will remove some outdated protections from social media platforms, effectively forcing them to adapt with better policies and practices or open themselves up to litigation.

Since the text of this bill almost exclusively "strikes" sections of other, preexisting legislation, I can't quite tell what it really does without trying to locate and read each of the other pieces of legislation. Does anyone have a quick summery of what effect this proposal would have if passed?

The same thing a cat would do. Look at them both, give a slow blink, then stand up and walk away to go do my own thing.

Yeah, not surprised at the Orange Blunder finding a way to bring back slavery. Oh his cronies will think up a different name for it, but soon these poor people will be segregated and counted as ⅗ of a person for purposes of population counting when drawing up political districts.

At this rate we are going to end up with Civil War 2 Electric Boogaloo before Christmas...

Edit: Correction of fractions, the historical amount was ⅗, not ⅕.

Protesting is not treason. Treason is the reason for the protests.

Coming of the Night (ttrpg.network)

Rage, rage, against the coming of the night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

When footsteps crackle among long dead and dreary bones, and looming tyrants bellows echo over painful muffled moans,

Rage, rage, against the coming of the night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

As children cry and call for parents lost embrace, and families weep in fear of loss, should they fall from grace,

Rage, rage, against the coming of the night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

To stop the shadow of kings cloak, from stretching 'cross the land, and return true freedom to the peoples rightful hands,

Rage, rage, against the coming of the night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

The call of rage against this dark injustice, summons forth collective might.

I had 3 configs I was testing for No Man's Sky, and since the last couple updates the community configs are broken. If I launch the game those configs come up as totally empty of assigned controls. I can switch to a Hello Games config and it works fine. I can't seem to find any way to delete a configuration once it's been downloaded. I was hoping that deleting and re-download would fix the issue.

After seeing some folks noticing a comment I made elsewhere in this instance, I thought a full post would be best. For those who don't know, the Steam Deck has a feature called Nested Desktop, which allows fast access to Desktop mode without needing to leave Game Mode or reboot into and out of modes.

To use this, go into desktop mode, open the menu and use the search function to look for "Nested Desktop". Now right click and add that to Steam. When you boot into Game mode, you'll see a new item added called Nested Desktop, which you can open to access desktop mode while still in game mode.

I found out about this almost a week ago and so far I use it most for referencing my digital game guides or searching NMS portal codes while still gaming. It's pretty seamless and really opens up some nice options, like modding a game and being able to boot it faster while having Game mode controls available.

The San Francisco medical examiner's office determined his death to be suicide and police found no evidence of foul play.

Does anyone else find it statistically significant how often whistle blowers commit suicide within a few days of releasing information or making a statement?

The key to understanding is finishing the sentence.

"I hate small talk... with people I have no reason to talk to and don't care about."

I love my partner, and even when it's small talk I can listen all day, just to hear their voice and learn a little more about them, to feel closer to the person I married in many small ways.

But I don't care about what Jim at the laundry mat did last weekend, or which machine he thinks makes socks dry faster.

Back in the same ol' place again. Let's see how we do with the second go 'round.

It's disappointing that copyright infringement could cause these people to spend time in prison, but the predatory practices of the companies they where competing with are punished with no more then fines. A "cost of doing business" for the corporate aristocrats. This is the threat the upper class uses on the rest of us, and all too often do not suffer themselves.

Want a 3D printer in New York? Get ready for fingerprinting and a 15 day wait

Assembly Bill A8132 has been assigned a "Same As" bill in the Senate: S8586 [NYSenate.gov] [A8132 - 2023]

I don't own a gun, I never have and I don't plan to at any time in the future. But if these pass in the NYS Senate and Congress, it would be required to submit fingerprints for a background check then wait 15 days, before you could own any "COMPUTER OR COMPUTER-DRIVEN MACHINE OR DEVICE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A THREE-DIMENSIONAL OBJECT FROM A DIGITAL MODEL."

This isn't even going to stop any crimes from happening, for pity sakes regular guns end up in criminal charges all the time, regardless of background check laws. How about some real change and effective measures, rather then virtue-signaling and theater illusion for a constituency?
