My favorite is the araucária popularly known as Paraná pine.

Redwoods absorb water through their foliage because they're too tall to efficiently carry water all the way up from the ground and I think that's based as fuck

also new acc what up comrades I'm here to hang out from hexbear ✌️

Hi! Good to have you here!

[-] nemesis@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Weeping willows have an ancient forest spirit vibe that I relate with. Weeping cherries for when I'm feeling pretty

Also while technically not a tree, I have a special fondness for Yucca brevifolia (aka Joshua trees)

I like the mesquite. It's spiky and has edible pods.

[-] x3n0s@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It also is great for smoking Texas BBQ!

My favourite is the birch, but I also like oaks, as they can be very majestic and give shelter to a lot of different species, and chestnut trees, because of their fruit.

[-] QueerCommie@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I love birches. When I was little I survived an overnight camp primarily on birch bark, and I’ve been wanting access to decent quantities of it since. Last year I finally got to planting multiple Black and Yellow birches.

Elm, Eucalyptus, Oak, Redwood, Bunya Pines, Acacia, Pine, Birch and Christmas Tree.

Ceiba.

Huge trees and their seed gets spread very interestingly, it grows this fruit and when it blooms it turns into cotton with the seed in the very middle. Since it's so light it gets blown with the wind and thus it spreads the seed. Also they're huge trees.

Mango trees. For the mangoes.

Birch

The white peeling bark looks beautiful in a summer forest, and it reminds me of the birch swamps of Belarus. The bark also burns in a way that pops and cackles, and that sound is part of very many fond memories.

[-] Nops@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Difficult decision, there are so many beautiful trees species. I think I prefere Liriodendron tulipifera

[-] Cassilda@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Tulip poplar. Such a good tree. Grows fast and big, makes a soft but fine-grained hardwood.

[-] ybl@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I love flora over fauna, plants never seize to amaze me with their diversity. Eucalyptus trees have a special place in my heart, to an extent that I sometimes dream of them haha

[-] Rasm635u@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I don't have a favourite but my least favourite is birch bc I'm allergic to their pollen

[-] stewie3128@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Monkey puzzle and sequoia

[-] holygon@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I quite like Nordmann fir also known as the Danish Christmas Tree. Good memories of being a kid, and putting decorations on them. Never a religious thing for us, just a nice little thing where me, my mom, and my grandma would do something together. With everything going on in the world I do cherish those childhood memories. I miss it to be honest, and hadn't thought about that for a while, so thanks for reminding me comrade, I actually needed that.

I like Maple trees - for their delicious syrup.

[-] RedSpectreInAHusk@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Araucárias are dope, their seeds taste great when roasted

[-] Drstrange2love@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Agora com o inverno chegando, vou preparar algumas para comer.

[-] RedSpectreInAHusk@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Bom demais, a gente sempre faz farofa de pinhão aqui nessa época

[-] Drstrange2love@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

[-] zugumba@ursal.zone 2 points 1 year ago

Live oaks are an easy tree to climb and relax on.

[-] Rad_Socialist@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Monterey Cypress!!! Beautiful trees in beautiful places. Honorable mention to the Sequoias though.

[-] PunsNRoses@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Aesthetically I love Sequoias, but I really love the Eucalyptus trees that grow near my house. They smell so good!

[-] ybl@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I love the Eastern Hemlock, Tsuga canadensis. It's an important part of Appalachian forests, and is threatened by climate change and an invasive insect.

Ginkgo biloba, it's a living fossil, has some very interesting properties, and I really like the unique shape of its leaves.

[-] maror@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ficus solely because biking under their shade feels like a dream
