Is this supposed to be funnier than the exiting vim jokes?

[-] hanke@feddit.nu 7 points 1 year ago

I like it 😄

[-] Borger 1 points 1 year ago

My gf laughed, so I'll take that as a yes ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I do not get these exiting vim memes. I've been using vim for over 20 years and it was maybe difficult to remember for the first week, tops.

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ah, but have you used ed, the standard editor?

[-] sata_andagi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

ed, man! man ed!

[-] uranushertz@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

I have not. But since I learned vi on Linux and Unix, it was using ex as it's 'personality'. ed is not something I have dug into.

[-] uranushertz@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

Quick search, it appears as though ed is a precursor to sed, which I use all the time. Both of which have a similar context and toolset to ex used in vim.

When i first started using linux and used vim i thought "wow this sucks but i guess its all i got for now"

Little did i know that Nano exists. Never again vim.

Never again.

[-] grysbok@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

Did you know nano supports syntax highlighting? For some reason it wasn't enabled by default on my first few linuxes. I don't know if it is nowadays.

[-] Bluefruit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I did not know that! Tbh i haven't used linux a lot recently. Only just getting back into it for self hosting stuff. But thats good to know! Thanks :)
